Jewish Book Month
To Open on Nov. II

The Jewish Book Council of
America has published for Jew-
ish Community Centers and
other Jewish organizations five
pamphlets on Jewish books and
Jewish book programs, as well as
book lists, two radio transcrip-
tions of children's programs, a
poster and other pieces on Jew-
ish books. The Council is spon-
sored by the National Jewish
Welfare Board and is the or-
ganizer of the annual observ-
ance of Jewish Book Month, set
this year throughout the nation
for Nov. 11 — Dec. 11. "Jewish
Book Sabbath" will be noted on
Nov. 28 and "Jewish Book Fes-
tival" on Dec. 11.

Italian Jewish Refugee
Group to Retain Status

ROME, (JTA)—The Central
Committee of the Organization
of Jewish Refugees in Italy will
not be liquidated next month as
announced earlier, Zvi Lewit,
acting chairman of the organ-
ization, said.
Lewit pointed out that there
are still 6,0,00 displaced Jews in
Italy and emphasized that his
group is the only body capable
of representing them.

CINCINNATI—Declaring that
this is the "year of American
Affirmation," Dr. Samuel S. Hol-
lender of Chicago who was elect-
ed unanimously national gener-
al chairman of the 1949-50 com-
bined campaign of • the institu-
tions of American Reform Ju-
daism, sounded the keynote of
the annual drive which will be-
gin this month.

Combined Campaign, established
a goal of $1,875,000 for the main-
tenance of the Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of Re-
ligion of Cincinnati and New
York and the Union of Ameri-
can Hebrew Congregations which
