Among the "Forty-Eighters,"
the fighters for freedom who
flooded to the United States a
century ago when Central Eu-
ropean revolutions were forcibly
suppressed, were at least 28
Jews, most of them men of out-
standing ability and talent who
made marked contributions to
American life.
This fact is disclosed by Dr.
Bertram W. Korn, associate di-
rector of the American Jewish
Archives, in an article in the
June issue of the Archives' pub-
lication, which highlights the

Chicken with Almonds

2', lbs. chicken
Y2 cup chopped almonds
1 cup sherry wine
3 egg yolks
1 bay leaf
2 cups broth
1 diced onion
1 cup pineapple juice
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
salt to taste
Cook chicken to make 2 cups broth.
Saute onion in oil for 5 minues, add
lyoth and wine, cook 5 minutes longer.
Dice cooked chicken and add to mixture.
Add almonds, bay leaf, 1 clove, pineapple
juice and egg yolks. Cook 3 minutes
stirring constantly. Serve on toast.

8 lbs. white fish skinned

8 eggs
1 bunch diced carrots
2 large onions
3 stalks celery
1 slice stale bread
1 cup milk
salt and pepper
Salt fish and let stand for several
hours:- Place skin and bones in kettle,
cover with water, add carrots, - one onion
and half the celery and boil for 1/, hour.
