CLASSES of the Jewish Center
will begin Oct. 2 and -continue
through Feb. 15. Elementary
classes meet Sunday afternoons
and Monday evenings. Advanced
classes meet Sunday morning
from 9:30 to 12:30 and Monday

Leon Makielski, a graduate of
the Art Institute of Chicago, will
again instruct the advanced art
class. He formerly taught at the
Art Institute and the University
of Michigan. At present he is
teaching at the Meinzinger Art
School.
Henry Bernstein, who will in-
struct the elementary art classes
is a graduate of the Art School
of the Society of Arts and
Crafts.

invited to the Center's Thursday
evening DANCE PARTIES. The
dances feature Stewart Cowen's
orchestra.

Tuesday night has been re-
served as TEEN NIGHT at the
Center. Both Detroit and Wind-
sor teen agers are welcome to
attend the dances. Stewart
Cowen's combo will continue to
provide music for dancing.

The CENTER SYMPHONY OR-
CHESTRA will start its rehear-
sals. Sunday, Oct. 2, at noon. As
in previous - years, ,Julius Chajes,
The Center's music director, will
conduct the orchestra. Musicians
who are interested in joining the
group may phone the Center of-
fice, TR. 5-8400.
The opening meeting of the
season of Home Relief Society
will be held Monday, Sept. 26,
at the home of Mrs. Jack Sylvan
on Roslyn. Dessert luncheon will
be served at 1 p.m., and will be
followed by a business meeting.
Mrs. Maurice Garelik, presi-
dent, announces that as in
previous years, supplementary
checks have been sent out to
needy cases for necessities for
Rash Hashanah and Yom Kip-
pur. Mrs. Joseph Rottenberg is
chairman of the case committee.
The hospital visiting committees
under the supervision of Mrs.
Ben Ketai, visited Jewish pa-
tients in hospitals in the city
before the holidays, and brought
them gifts and reading material.
Plans have been completed
for the annual fund-raising af-
fair:a luncheon and profession-
al floor show at the Book Cadil-
lac Hotel Nov. 30. Mrs. Frank
Winton is chairman of ways
and means, and Mrs: John Her-
man is chairman of the year

LONDON, • (JTA)—A member
of Sir Oswald Mosley's fascist
Union Movement was sentenced
to a one-year term of imprison-
ment for assaulting two Jewish
youthsaged 15 and 16, respec-
tively—in the Dalston district
of London last April. The assault
was described in court as "a
little Jew baiting." The fascist
is Francis William Slaw, 21, who
was a strong arm man at out-
door fascist meetings.

Adeline Subar has been ap-
pointed teacher in charge of the
pre-school play group program
of the 12th St. Council Center.
A graduate of Wayne Univer-
sity,'Miss Subar majored in his
tory and pre-professional social
work. Later she was student as-
sistant in the recreational clubs
department of the Merrill-Palm-
er School, where she studied
child development and nursery
school education. She gained
experience at the Center, as a
group leader in the Junior pro-
gram, as well as counselling at
the . Center's Camp Habonim.
She also was a counsellor at
Fresh Air Camp and Camp Liv-
ingston.
Miss Subar was secretary of
the Central States Region of
IZFA, served on committees of
the Zionist Youth Commission,
was director of Young Judea
and co-chairman of the Detroit
Jewish Group Leaders' Associa-
tion.
