Seminary to Honor
Shaarey Zedek Head

Harry M. Shulman, president
of Cong. Shaarey Zedek, will be
one of a group of American Jew-
ish leaders to be honored at the
opening convocation of the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary of
America, in New York City, on
Tuesday, Sept. 27. Shulman will
receive a citation honoring him
for his contributions to Con-
servative Judaism.
The Hon. Herbert H. Lehman
heads a list of prominent lay-
men who will be at the convo-
cation which will be devoted to
the consideration of the place of
lay leadership in religious and
educational tasks.
Citations for distinguished
service will be conferred on
presidents of congregations co-
operating with the Seminary in
the effort to maintain tradi-
tional Judaism in America.
Lehman will be inaugurated
as chairman of the board of
overseers.

Among the members of the
new World Mizrachi executive,
elected at the recently-conclud-
ed 18th conference of the move-
ment in Jerusalem, are RABBI
JUDAH L. MAIMON, left, Israel
Minister of Religion, and MOSHE
SHAPIRO, Israel Minister of
Immigration. Leon Gellman,
president of the Mizrachi Or-
ganization of America, will leave
in October for Israel to take up
his duties as new chairman of
the world Mizrachi executive..

The Detroit Businessmen's
group of the Los Angeles Sani-
tarium is making plans for the
1949 drive for funds for the City
of Hope, formerly known as Los
Angeles Sanitarium. A $50,000
goal has been set.
The drive formally opens with
an invitational dinner at Bel
Aire, Sunday, Sept. 25.
Nathan R. Epstein is president
of the Businessmen's group. The
business men's steering com-
mittee includes Ben Goldberg
chairman, Frank Rosenbaum as-

At Temple Israel Religious
School, in the Hampton Public
School, new pupils are accepted
every Saturday and Sunday at
9:30 a.m. There will be no ses-
sions Saturday and Sunday, Oct.
24 and 25.
