Care Takes Orders
For Israel Packages

The Detroit CARE Committee
began accepting orders for non-
profit food packages to be de-
livered to the new state of Israel.
Approved by the Israel govern-
ment and specially designed to
meet current needs there, the
packages will be stockpiled at
Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Under terms of CARE's agree-
ment with the government,
adults may receive one kosher
food package a month and a
child may receive three kosher
baby food packages per month.
The newly created food par-
cels, each priced at $10, will
reach recipients in Israel duty-
free, ration-free, with no handl-
ing cost and without the neces-
sity for obtaining government
licenses required for all other
private packages.
The packages meet the offi-
cial requirements of the Israel
Minister of Food Control and
contain food items which are
scarce in Israel. The parcel has
the approval of the Union of
Orthodox Jewish Congregations
of Atherica and Rabbinical
Council of America.
Israel CARE orders are being
accepted by the Detroit CARE
office at 153 E. Elizabeth and
all local CARE outlets.

Ex-Detroiter's Songs
Are Winning Popularity

Moving up the ladder of mu-
sical popularity are the songs of
Clara Sharfman of Toledo, for-
merly Clara Pearlman of Detroit.
Recordings of her latest songs,
"My Dreams Have All Come
True," "When the Cotton Blos-
soms Bloom in Georgia," "The
Right Time to Fall in Love," and
"Please Don't Wake Me," may
now be heard by request on De-
troit radio stations and will soon
be available in juke boxes and
at music dealers.
The composer has announced
that s h e is contributing a
portion of the royalties on two
of her songs to the Cancer Fund
of Toledo and Detroit.

New London Shop
Has Modern Decor

An ultra-modern store design,
combining California and Flori-
da with the conventional acces-
sories, was opened to the public
at the London Shop's cocktail
party last Sunday.
The shop's fine lines of men's
clothing are now displayed in a
town and country setting which
features flagstone walks setting
off red carpeting and Chinese
red, chartreuse and black for its
color scheme.
Inasmuch as the holder of the
London Shop's "lucky key" did
not attend the party Sunday, all
key holders are asked to come in
to the store this week. If the
lucky key holder does not ap-
pear, the gift merchandise will
be given to charity.

Naama Gurion, Israeli war
veteran, was barely 16 years old
when she joined the under-
ground. Her contribution to
Israeli freedom was the ampu-
tation of her right leg.
,Doctors recommend that she
acquire a special car, adapted
for use by amputees, which can
be manipulated by the use of
the hands only and thus relieve
strain on the good leg. Miss
Gurion expects to remain in the
United States for several
months, in the hope that she
can elicit the generosity of the
Zionist public in the matter of
supplying her with the car, and
learn to operate it, because
transportation con d i t i o n s in
Israel would make it impossible
for her to use general convey-
ances.
