Lachover'&Hebrew Children's Legends
Gain Popularity in Michigan Schools
State-wide interest is being
displayed in the new children's
Bible book, "Hebrew Legends
and Sabbath Stories for Chil-
dren," by Abraham J. Lachover,
ABRAHAM J. LACHOYER
book—the first in a series of
similar volumes planned for
early publication by Mr. Lach-
over. A number of Michigan
schools already have ordered
large quantities of the first vol-
ume which is being distributed
in Detroit at Borenstein's Book
and Music Store, 8663 12th St.
The new book is in two sec-
tions—Hebrew Legends for Chil-
dren and Sabbath Stories. The
second section is devoted .en-
tirely to the Sabbath, its leg-
ends and ideals, emphasizing
the Hebraic background of the
Day of -Rest. "Remember the
Sabbath Day" is an especially
good story, emphasizing the
highest moral element in the
teachings of Jews, . Christians
and Mohammedans. This section
also includes a Sabbath poem
and stories about Joseph and
Elijah.
The first portion of the book
opens with a legend about "the
Beginning" of the world. It has
stories about Noah, Abraham,
Isaac, Jacab, Joseph, Pharaoh,
Moses and other Biblical char-
acters.
Lachover tells his stories
well. As a former teacher, he
understands the needs of chil-
dren and his stories were writ-
ten to capture • the youngsters'
imagination. He has succeeded
in hiS task and the beautiful
illustrations have been helpful
in popularizing. his book.
