CHAPLAIN SAMUEL ROSEN
of Brooklyn, regular Air Force
Jewish chaplain, left on a miss-
ion to Hawaii, where he partici-
pated in the dedication of a
national memorial cemetery in
Honolulu. He was flown to his
destination in a plane of Mili-
tary Air Transport (MATS). Fol-
lowing his return by MATS to
the U. S., Chaplain Rosen will be
given air transport to Alaska,
where he' has been assigned by
the Air Force to conduct High
Holy Day services for Jewish
men at all installations there.

M. Paul Paray, the eminent
French conductor will open the
1949-1950 concert season of the
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
on October 4th in Tel Aviv. The
new season, ac-
cording to an
announcement

for Israel Insti-
tutions, repre-
sentative of Is-
r a e 1 Philhar-
monic Orchestra
in the United
States, will • in-
clude a number Jaseh• Heifetz
of internationally famous musi-
cal celebrities including conduc-
tors Serge Kmssevitzky, Leon-
ard Bernstein, George Singer
and soloists Jascha Heifetz, Zino
Francescatti and Ida Haendel.
Sigi Weissenberg, -pianist, who
has made an excellent reputa-
tion in the United States after
his arrival from Israel, Elaine
Richepin, French pianist, and
Rudolf Firkusny also will appear.

al Service of Detroit, will again
teach a course in "Vocational
Information for Teachers and
Counselors" during the fall term
at Wayne University. The
course will be given on. Wednes-
day evenings, from 7 to 9.

state campaign chairman of the
United Fund campaign (Torch
Fund in Detroit), according to
an announcement by Stephen S.
Nisbet, Fund president. Official
date for the United Fund cam-
paign is February but -a num-
ber of counties have elected to
run their campaign for state
and national agencies in October
in conjunction with Community
Chest drives.

dreds of torn and blood-stained
Scrolls of the Law from syna-
gogues destroyed by the Nazis
in Eastern Europe arrived here
and were handed over to Min-
ister of Religion Dr. Judah L.
Maimon. The Scrolls will be
buried in accordance with Jew-
ish tradition in the ancient San-
hedrin graves here.
