`Israel' To Be Noun and Adjective

LONDON, (JTA)—The Government of Israel has notified
the British Foreign Office that henceforth in all official
documents the term "Israel" will be used as an adjective as
well as a noun, as in "Israel troops" or "Israel borders." The
term "Israeli" will be used only as a noun to describe
citizens of the Jewish state, the Foreign Office was told.

Israel's decision to confiscate the
Haifa refineries unless they are
reopened soon, the British Gov-
ernment decided to move oil by
tanker from the Persian Gulf.
The refineries have been out of -
operation for more than a year,
since the Iraqi Government
stopped pumping oil through
the pipeline to Israel.
The tankers will move through
the Suez Canal. Although noth-
ing is known at the present
concerning British plans to es-
cort the tankers, it is not ex-
pected that Egyptian authorities
will attempt to interfere. The
British Government has made it
plain that it means to see the
tankers through.
The British Government is
understood to- have arrived at
its decision partly because of
reports that independent Amer-
ican oil companies . have made
definite offers to Israel for the
building of new refineries. The
decision to move through the
Suez Canal, in spite of • the re-
mote possibility of Egyptian
opposition, also follows a grow-
ing campaign by all political
parties and all newspapers for
such action.

The German police were
cleared of the charges at a

effort by the Joint Distribution Committee, major American
agency aiding distressed Jews abroad, to raise the standards of
aid and social service in Jewish communities overseas. JDC's
relief, resettlement and reconstruction operations, which are
made possible by funds from the United Jewish Appeal, are
designed to build a future of health, independence and dignity
