Among the numerous occasions on which the late Supreme Court Justice Frank Murphy expressed his deep convictions in support of the Zionist cause was the reception he gave officially on Monday noon, Jan. 19, 1931, to the late Menachem Ussishkin, then world president of the Jewish • Nationale Fund, on the latter's visit in Detroit. Numerous events then were held in honor of Mr. Ussishkin under the direction of Aaron Kurland, author of the accompanying tribute to Mr. Justice Murphy. He came from the people, and throughout his career he had been not only tolerant and fair to all races and creeds, but on every opportunity spoke in glowing tribute of the accom- plishments and of the genius of the various racial groups which enter into the American melt- ing pot. There is little need to describe his record. Many articles have been written in the past week demonstrating the impact of this man's life upon American thought during the past 30 years. His philosophy of govern- ment, his crusading zeal, his spiritual approach to the prob- lems of our time; as well as his answering heart to the call of the oppressed and those- in need will be the focus of man's study for many years to come. History Will make record of this man's life, and for generations to fol- low_.disciples will walk in the steps of this son of America. (Copyright 1949, JTA) A Prophecy (Which Did Not Become Fact) .
