June Bride

SEGAL-LEVIN: On June 12,
Lorraine Levin bedame the bride
of Irving Segal at a ceremony
at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Meyer Levin of Oak-
man Blvd. Mr. Segal is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Segal
of Buena Vista Ave.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman and
Rabbi Leo Goldman officiated
at the service which was wit-
nessed by members of the im-
mediate families.
The bride chose a blush pink
lace, ballerina length gown,
having an off the shoulder scal-
loped neckline and wore match-
ing pink slippers. A crown of
wild roses fashioned into a
headdress with pink netting
continued the solitary color
scheme. She carried pink roses
and lilies of the valley on a
white Bible.
The bride's attendants were;
Maid of honor, Bernice Fish-
man; bridesmaid, Thelma Rose;
Larry Levin, nephew of the
bride, ring bearer; Judy Weitz,
flower girl. Marcia Margulies,
soloist, sang "Through The
Years," and "Because."
Sidney Segal served his
brother as best man and Maury
Levin, brother of the bride, was
usher.
Following the ceremony, din-
ner for 50 guests was held at
the Elmwood Hotel in Windsor.
For their honeymoon t h e
couple traveled through Canada
stopping at Muskoka Beach Inn,
Toronto and Niagara Falls.

HARRIS -SCHAK NE Ann
Schakne, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry T. Schakne of New
York City, was married to Dr.
Cyril Harris, son of Mrs. Ida M.
Harris of Los Angeles and the
late Dr. Bernard 0. Harris, for-
merly of Detroit, at a ceremony
at the home of the bride's par-
ents July 12. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. David J. Fut-
terman of the Park Avenue
Synagogue.
Mrs. Harris was graduated
from Hunter college and re-
ceived her master's degree from
Radcliff. Dr. Harris received his
master's degree from the Uni-
versity of California in Los An-
geles, and was given the doctor
of philosophy degree in physics
by the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology.

KAHN-WALD: Lillian Ruth
Wald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Emil Wald of Pittsburgh, Pa.,
was married to Howard Malcolm
Kahn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos-
eph Kahn, of W. Grand Boule-
vard, June 26, at a formal gar-
den ceremony at the home of
the bride. -
'Mrs. David Spiegel, sister of
the bride, was her matron-of-
honor, and the bridegroom was
attended by his brother, Ellis.
- Out-of-town guests included
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kahn, Mrs.
S. Safier and Mr. and Mrs. Mor-
ris Goodman of Detroit, and Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney Wald and Na-
than Wald of Washington, D. C.
After a honeymoon trip to
New York and points east, the
couple is making their home in
Detroit.

Plans Fall Nuptials

SPECTOR-SHER: At a candle-
light ceremony July 10 at Bel-
Aire, Renee Sher, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Max Sher of
Broadstreet Blvd., became the
bride of Robert Spector, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Spector of
St. Louis. Rabbi Jacob Segal
performed the ceremony, assist-
ed by Cantor Jacob Sonenklar.
The newlyweds are honey-
mooning in Miami Beach, after
which they will reside at the
Hotel Sherry-Frontenac in St.
Louis.

STONE-LEVY: Announcement
is made of the recent marriage
of Ben Stone of Detroit and
Mrs. Dorothy Levy of Chicago.
After a brief honeymoon, the
couple will reside at 18489 Stoe-
pel.

LaVERE-SISSKIND: Mr. and
Mrs. Max Sisskind of Los An-
geles, formerly of Detroit, an-
nounce the marriage of their
daughter, Bertha, to Mike La-
Vere, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Albert
LaVere of California, to take
place Saturday evening, July 23,
at the Soto Jewish Center in
Los Angeles. Cantor Israel Reich
will officiate.

On July 22, pupils of EVE
MEISTER will present a pro-
gram for the Free Press Camp-
ers at Sylvan Village, Pontiac.
Among the performers- will be
Sherry Kaye, Joan Meister,
Roberta Feldman and Diane
Benner.

More than 700 chapters of the
Women's Supreme Council, B'nai
Brith, have joined in the CARE
campaign to provide soap for
kids in Europe.

The recent election of DR.
SHMARYA KLEINMAN as presi-
dent of the Jewish Community
Council has resulted in a curious
by-product. The family Bluvsh-
tein of Jerusalem, distant rela-
tives of Dr. Kleinman, had lost
touch with him and did not
even haVe his address. As a
result of his election being re-
ported in the Forward the
family was again informed of
his whereabouts.

Men's Clubs

The newly-formed REX LODGE
of Bnai Brith, comprised of
members of the former Rex
Chapter of AZA and Bnai Brith
Young Men, meets at 8 p.m. on
Wednesdays at the Jewish Cen-
ter. Those interested in mem-
bership in this young men's
lodge are invited to call Mar-
tin Band, WO. 3-1514.

Bnai Brith will hold a beach
party Saturday evening, July 23,
at East Shore House, on Grand

MRS. EDWIN SCHWARTZ

Irene Charlotte Levine, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Le-
vine of Grand Ave. became the
bride of Edwin ,Schwartz, son of
Mrs. Louis Schwartz of Tuxedo
Ave. and the late Mr. Schwartz,
June 5, at Bnai Moshe Syna-
gogue. Rabbi M. Lehrman and
Cantor David Katzman offici-
ated.
For her wedding, the bride
chose a gown of white satin and
Danish lace, with 19, hoop skirt of
satin and tiers of lace. Her
fingertip veil was held by a
crown of looped white satin and
orange blossom seeds. She car-
ried a mother of pearl prayer
book with two white orchids.
She was attended by her sis-
ter, Mrs. Joseph Cutler, matron
of honor; Shirley Labiner, maid-
of-honor, and Nita Hitow of
Bay City, Fern Skolnik, Vera
Operman, Pearl Beninson and
Muriel Sender, cousin of the
bridegroom, bridesmaids.
Henry Shaperio served as best
man. The ushers were Irving
Barit, Lou Rottenberg, Bill Sklar,
Howard Levitt and Lou Bialick,
cousin of the bride.
After the ceremony, dinner
was served for the immediate
family and friends, followed by
a large reception.
Among the out-of-town guests

Mrs. Nathan Mogil and son, Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Ballan and
daughter, Mrs. Fannie Pales-

The "Bolero" or "Son", known as
the slow Rumba, has three dis-
tinctive types of rhythms.

1. The "R e g u l a r Rhythm" is
danced to four beats to the bar
of music. The 1, 2 and 3
beats are danced and the 4
beat is held.

The "Off-Beat Rhythm" is
dancing to four beats to the
bar, excepting that any other
beat is held but the 4. For ex-
ample: 1-19,,,Iding the 2 beat.
Dance 1—hold 2—dance 3
and 4.

3. The "Contra-Tempo Rhythm"
is dancing to two bars of
music. Dance the 1, 2, 3 and
4 beats—hold the 5—dance
the 6 and 7—hold- the eight.

Dr. Shmarya Kleinman, presi-
dent of the Jewish Community
Council, announces that Bernard
Rosenberg, Ph.D., had been en-
gaged to collect and analyze
data relating to the changing
patterns of living in the 12th
Street area. The study will util-
ize material gathered by inter-
viewers from the Women's Divi-
sion of American Jewish Con-
gress for the Community Coun-
cil and will include other ma-
terial gathered by Dr. Rosen-
berg and corps of volunteers,
Mostly students of sociology.
The study, a joint project of
the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People
and the Jewish Community
Council, under the direction. of
Dr. S. Joseph Fauman of the
Council's staff, continues in re-
search and action to improve
Negro-Jewish relations.
Dr. Rosenberg, a native De-
troiter, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Rosenberg of Webb Ave-
nue, was graduated from the
University of Michigan in 1945
with an A. B. in anthropology.
Since that time he has done
graduate work at the New School
for Social Research and has
been granted the degrees of
Master of Arts in 1947 and Doc-
tor of Philosophy in 1949, both
in Sociology. He has done ad-
vanced study at the University
of Geneva, published some of
his work in Social Research and
is expecting publication shortly
of his thesis.
