Richard Saffir left last week for Silverspur Dude Ranch in
Woodland Pk., Colorado, where he will spend the next six weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Blumenthal and their daughters, Janet
and Carol, of Glastonbury Ave., are spending the week in the
east.
Mrs. Leonard Oppenheim and her daughter, Jane, of Whit-
more Rd., left on Sunday for Magnolia, Mass., where they will
spend the next three weeks as the guests of Mr, and Mrs. Harry
Brenner.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sofer of Rochester Ave., spent the last
week-end in Cleveland where they were the guests of her brother-
in-law and sister.
Mrs. Lillian Sarfate of Lawrence Ave., has returned from a
few months' visit in South Anierica.
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Gunsberg and their daughter, Marion, of
Woodingham Ave., spent the holiday week-end in Frankfort.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smilay of Burlington Rd., are spending a
few months in Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wetsman, their daughter, Wendy, and
son, Hank, of Indiana Ave., left on Friday for Lexington where
they will spend the month of July.
Miss Marcia Tobin, who was graduated in May from the
Manhattan School of Music, is spending the summer with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tobin of Webb Ave.
Philip Caplan, who was graduated from the Teachers Institute
of YeShiva University in New York, is spending the summer with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham, Caplan of Boston Blvd.
Mrs. Betty Lipton of New York was visiting here with mem-
bers of her family last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Solomon of Dexter Blvd., left last Friday for
Frankfort where they plan to spend the summer.
Mrs. Jack Pinsky of Warrington Rd., has returned from a two
months' tour of Europe.
Beryl Gussee of Los Angeles is spending a few weeks visiting
with his nephews and nieces, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tobin of Webb
Ave., and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tobin of Merton Rd.
Hachug Haivri, Hebrew-speaking club, will honor Ora Lip-
sitz on her departure -for Israel at a farewell garden party Tues-
day evening, July 12, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Schiff-
man, 16134 Princeton. Miss Lipsitz will join her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Max Lipsitz, in Beth Yitzchak.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Vernick and sons Richard and Jack
have moved from Washburn Avenue and are now residing at 6348
London Ave.
Miss Isabel King of Woodingham Drive, a junior at the Uni-
versity of Michigan, left for Ithaca, N. Y., to attend summer
school at Cornell University. At the conclusion of the school term,
she will visit in New York City, Boston and Quincy, Mass. '
Lenore Goodman is at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Goodman of 17314 Fairfield, after her graduation from the
University of Wisconsin. -
Mr.'and Mrs. Sidney Shmarak and sons of Freda Ave., who
have returned from a vis i t to New York City, have as their guest
Mrs. Celia Shmarak of Brooklyn.

Stein Named President
Of Better Schools Unit

Morris W. Stein will succeed
Dr. Morton Hack as president
of the MacCulloch chapter of
the Better Schools Association
for the next school year.
Mrs. George Victor will replace
Stein as vice president and Mrs.
L. L. Friedland will become re-
cording secretary. Other new
officers include Mrs. Laura Mi-
lan, corresponding secretary;
Dr.. Joseph M. Oppenheim, treas-
urer, and Philip E. Heideman,
representative to the City As-
sociation.

lan, Morgenthau Lodge softball
squad has been undefeated in
seven straight games this sea-
son. Standouts on the pitching
rubber have been Max Olit, Milt
Levinson and Morry Wasserman.
Ted Brown and Harold Haas
also have done a fine job with
distant hitting.
Jack Caminker was installed
as president of Morgenthau
Lodge for 1949-50. Other officers
installed were Hilbert Sosin, Iry
Davis, Leo Sobel, Stan Wolf,
Herb Capp, Sidney Feldstein,
Gabriel Glantz, Fred Rappaport,
Sam Schiff, Morrie Nelson, Paul
Richman and Al Blumenfeld.

award was made at the 11th
national convention of the or-
ganization in Philadelphia., June
11 to 15.
Sophie Sislin is one of the
charter members of Club One,
which was organized October,
1925. She has served as treas-
urer, corresponding and finan-
cial secretaries, was chairman of
the club 1946 to '48, and was
on the national advisory board
for the organization for five
years, until the position . was
abolished. At present she is
Moatzoat Hapoalot and funds
chairman of Club One, as well
as serving as program chairman
of the Pioneer Women's Council.
She is financial secretary of
Branch On e, LZOA. For
many years she has, been active
in the Farband Camp and the
Jewish Folk Schools of the La-
bor Zionist Movement and is a
member of Arlazaroff Branch,
Jewish National Workers Alli-
ance.

GREENFIELD PARK, N. Y.—
(JTA)—The annual convention
of Young Israel concluded after
adopting a resolution calling for
the establishment of a Young
Israel center in Tel Aviv to
strengthen the movement in
Israel.
Another resolution urges the
strengthening of Orthodoxy in
the United States by setting up
chapters of the organization in
various U.S. universities. The
convention decided to join in
a proposed investigation of al-
leged high prices in the sale of
kosher meats. Eli Stein was re-
elected president of the National
Council of Young Israel.
