IRVING BLUMBERG is work-
ing on his idea to present keys
to individuals . . . honoring them
for outstanding community
service in work done on Allied
Jewish Campaigns . . . The plan
provides for a bronze key the
first year • . . a silver one after
a certain period and then a
gold key.

MURRAY SELDES has been
gaining experience from travel-
ing with a stock company . . .
but it can get a little rough on
the nerves, he says . . . The form-
er community youth leader was
with a troupe that put on dif-
ferent shows every night . . .
sometimes two different shows a
day . . . This was confusing to
the cast . . . though great for
experience in repertory . . . One
afternoon he forgot his lines
and rushed backstage to the
company director . . "Quick,
Murray asked, "what's my line?”
. "Quick," the director replied,
"what's the play?"

BEWARE OF money-collecting
racket by people using title of
Detroit Jewish Sick and Needy
Fund Society . . . There is no
record of such an organization.
. Contribution boxes bearing
this name should be reported to
the Jewish Community Council
for investigation . . With
enough community cooperation,
,
` some kind'of drive can be start-
ed against illegitimate private
profiteering .. or whatever you
want to call it.

"DEAR DADDY . . . I bought
this for you with my own money
I saved up and what mommie
gived me. I hope you like it
because I love you . just like
mommie does too." (Note at-
tached to Harold Stein's
Father's Day gift from seven
year-old daughter, Maxine.)

BIG SHOW BY Julie Adler,
June 26 and 27, at Art Insti-
tute . . promises much enter-
tainment by performers who'll
range from three-year-olds up
to Julie's husband, Eddie Spar-
age . . . Eddie and Ralph Fish
will do a song and dance routine
ala Crosby and Astaire specialty.
... Show is called "Gotta Dance"
. and seats are by reservation
only . . Reason for this years
two-nighter is because of so
many turn-aways at the '47
show.

THERE WAS A pigeon flying
around the classrooms at Dur-
fee Intermediate, last week . . .
getting some book learnin', giv-
ing the kids fun and the jani-
tors a headache . . . The bird
was let loose during a vaudeville
act in last week's show by Louis
Marshall Lodge Dramatic Group.
. . It was finally caught before
graduation .. so was unable to
participate in the exercises.

AT START OF Campaign, Na-
than R. Epstein gave regrets on
fact that he wouldn't be able to
give much time to the drive . . .
because of trip to Los Angeles
Jewish Consumptive Relief Sani-
torium . . . for which he devotes
much effort . . However final
campaign -records now in show
that he covered more than 100
slips . . and folks are wonder-
ing what he would have done
had he had time! : : : Chair-
man Milton Mahler calls him
the NI.mber One worker in the
Mechanical Trades Division.

er Jr. Service Group . . . now
the Young Adult Council Corn-
munity Service Committee . . .
will be honored at the coming
annual meeting . . . June 27,
8:30 p.m. . . . at Jewish Cen-
ter . . . All 1949 contributors
to the juniors are eligible to
vote for 36 directors . then
have some food and dance.

A PROUD FATHER sat and
watched his son being graduated
from medical school . . . The
tears that trickled down his rud-
dy cheeks were of joy and sad-
ness . . . joy at seeing a wish
come true . . Meyer Wolfner
had worked hard' . .. very hard
. . . to send his son through
school . . . But it had been worth
it . . . He and Martha had want-
ed Albert to have a good edu-
cation . . . maybe grow up to be
a doctor . . . Just before she
passed away several years ago,
Mrs. Wolfner expressed this de-
sire . . . and Meyer dedicated his
life to its fulfillment . . Now
it was happening . . . Onto the
state walked his son . . . tall,
handsome-looking in his cap
and gown as he approached the
distinguished gentleman with
hand outstretched . . . Albert
was getting his diploma . . he
is now a doctor ... "Yes, Martha,
our son did become a doctor."
