Four New Buildings ;
Give Honor Degrees
NEW YORK, (JTA)—The es-
tablishment by the Jewish com-
munity of a medical school "is
a great public service" Secretary
of Defense Louis Johnson de-
clared at exercises for the dedi-
cation of four new buildings at
Yeshiva University in this city .
Emphasizing the urgent need of
the country and the armed serv-
ices in • particular for doctors,
Johnson expressed the hope that
when the Yeshiva Medical
School begins to send out grad-
uates the military services "will
attract a number of them."
"It would be most fitting to
predicate the dedication of a
medical school at Yeshiva Uni-
versity," Johnson continued, "on
the name and fame of Maimo-
nides, the great Jewish medieval
philosopher who matched his
worldly wisdom with his medical
skill and his interest in man
with his faith in God. "For,'' he
added, "like Maimonides the
great Jewish doctors were
learned men, who knew the his-
tory and the culture of their
people."
Besides dedicating the four
new buildings, the ceremony al-
so marked the opening- of a
week-long celebration of the ed-
ucational and physical progress
of America's first University un-
der Jewish auspices.
