Drive Reaches $5 Million Mark;
Extended to Secure Full Quota
A determined group of Allied Jewish Campaign work-
ers, meeting at the Jewish Center on Tuesday evening at a
gathering that originally was intended to serve as the con-
cluding session of the 1949 drive, resolved to continue with
solicitations until the entire $6,395,000 is reached.
While the total announced at Tuesday's meeting was $4,-
844,810-76 per cent of the goal and 70 per cent of the pros-
pects—campaign leaders stated that a number of reported
pledges were certain to boost the total on hand now to well
over the $5,000,000 mark raised thus far.
Nearly 16,000 prospective contributors remain to be
solicited, and the drop in the amount secured so far, compared
with last year's $5,800,000 total, has been attributed to the
failure of some workers to fulfill their responsibilities to see
their prospects.
Isadore Sobeloff, executive director of the campaign,
stated at Tuesday's meeting that $1,000,000 in last year's
giving has not yet been reported on, and it depends on the
workers whether the drive is to succeed or fail." He added
that from all indications the drive will succeed; because of the
determinedgroup of star workers in the drive.
