stone, died May 16. Services

ing. He leaves his wife, Minnie;

daughters, Eleanor and Mrs.
Clarence Jacobs; three brothers.

Pilot killed in France Sept. 12,
1944, were held Sunday, May 22,
at the Ira Kaufman Chapel. He
leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Abraham Dater of Saginaw; two
brothers, Samuel and Ely; and
his grandfather, Max Dater. In-
terment was in the Nusach
Harie Cemetery under the aus-
pices of the Harvey Dater Post,
JWV of Lansing.

MORRIS LEVINE, 63, died May
12, after a long illness in the
Detroit Tuberculosis Sanatorium.
Funeral services were held at
Hebrew Benevolent Society. Rab-
bi Sperka officiated. He is sur-
vived by a daughter, Shirley; a
son, Jerry; a brother, Harry,
and a sister, Mrs. Fannie PBia-
lick.

Sister of Detroiter
SUFFERN, N.Y. — Mrs. Mary
Antin Grabau, 67, known pro-
fessionally as Mary Anti n,
author of the autobiographical
novel, "The Promised Land,"
cited Sunday, May 15, at the
Pinehurst Nursing. Home here.
Mrs. Grabau, sister of Mrs.
Fanny Lasser of Detroit, wrote
her famous book in 1912, only 16
years after her arrival in the
United States from R u s s i a.
Among her other published
works were "From Polotzk to
Boston" and "They Who Knock
at Our Gates."
She was married to Prof.
Amadeus W. Grabau, geologist
and once professor at Columbia
University, who died in 1946.
Besides Mrs.- Lasser, three other
sisters and a daughter survive.

David Love and Ray Lewis. She
is also survived by a brother,
Herman. Interment, Clover Hill.

died May 21. Services were held
at Lewis Bros. He was the fath-
er of Robert, Norman, Martin,
Sol and Mrs. Myron Klein. He
leaves two brothers, Hari y and
Nathan, and a sister, Mrs. Cher-
na Sage. Interment, Westwood.

4075 Elmhurst, died May 20. Fu-

brothers and three sisters.

CHARLES COHEN DIES
NEW YORK, JTA) — Charles
Cohen, a founder and director
of the United Jewish Appeal of
Greater New York, died here
at the age of 63. A welfare and
communal worker for many
years, Cohen served on the exec-
utive committee of the Federa-
tion of Jewish Philanthropies of
New York and recently received
the Felix M. Warburg Memorial
Award for 25 years of service to
the Federation._ anal:. the, cgT47
munity.
Donald S. Kelley, director of
athletics at Detroit Central High
School for the past 23 years, is
enthusiastic about his position
as director of Camp Hiawatha,
Jewish boys' camp.
At Detroit Central "Don" an-
nually has contact with thou-
sands of students.
After graduation from Battle
Creek High School, Don went to
University of Southern Califor-
nia but soon switched to Mich-
igan where he got his Master's
degree. At Michigan he partici-
pated in football, but leading his
own band helped defray his cost
of schooling. In 1936 he was a
counselor at Camp Hiawatha,
then known as Island Lake
Camp. He left to be associated
with other camps and for a time
was with Matt Mann's camp as
swimming insructor, trip cap-
tain and instructor of sailing.
In calling on old campers and
new prospective campers Don is
having a reunion with some of
his students whom he has not
seen in years.
