Community Council Intensifies
Effort in Kosher Meat Problem
The steady stream of com-
plaints coming in to the office
of the Jewish Community Coun-
cil concerning the - practices and
prices. of Kosher meat dealers
has intensified tha efforts of
the Council to solve this prob-
tem now confronting our com-
munity. The Council stated on
Tuesday that negotiations deal-
tng with this problem are at a
stand-still due to the refusal . of
the Kosher Butchers' Associa-
tion to post cuts and prices of
treats in their stores.
• "The sub-committee feels that
this Bulletin Board, stating price
and variety of meat available,
would tend to make the buying
of Kosher meat easier for many
young housewives, who find
shopping in kosher meat 'mark-
ets a difficult practice. The Ko-
sher Butchers' Association thus
far has refused to post these
bulletin boards in their stores,"
the Council stated. •
In behalf of the labor Zionist movement in Detroit,
Morris Lieberman, chairman of the Central Commit-
tee of Detroit Labor Zionists Organization, sent a con-
gratulatory message to Israel's Prime Minister David
Ben-Gurion in Tel Aviv.
Among the pioneers in the labor Zionist movement
shown in the front row are, left to right, Arnold A.
Weitzman, I. Zemel, Emil Kahan, William Hordes,
Abram Katz, Louis Goldsmith, Louis Linsky • J: Wein-
steM, Max Phefferberg, Aaron Agree and Isidore Born-
stein,
"The Jewis h• Community
Council feels that the communi-
ty should be informed on this
problem. Kosher meat is a ne-
cessity and should be treated as
a public • trust. Bad practices
should be corrected to the gain
of all."
"To this end a broad commit-
tee is being formed," Aaron
DrOock, president of the Jewish
Community Council, said. "Rab-
bis, sisterhoods, and women's
organizations, together with the
Jewish Community Council, will
deal with this complex problem
affecting our economic and re-
ligious life."
