NEW YORK—In order to fa-
cilitate the clearing of standard
gift food parcels sent to Israel,
as well as some of the major gift
items exceeding $60 in value
(refrigerators; radios, washing
machines, etc.), a new procedure
is to be established at the Con-
sulate General of Israel, effec-
tive immediately, according to
an announcement made by Gid-
eon Strauss, Consul.
Recognized food parcel agen-
cies are called upon to prepay
customs at the time of the dis-
patch of the standard parcels,
as determined in Israel recently.
This will avoid delay in clear-
ing the parcels through customs
at the Israel end.
For gifts valued at over 15
pounds, in particular domestic
appliances, Israel government
charges may now be prepaid at
the American end.
While import licenses will still
have to be obtained by the re-
cipient, he may apply for same
while the shipment is en route
to Israel. Exact details may be
obtained from the Consulate.
