Young Israel Celebrates 26 Years
Of Service for Jewish. Community
Completion of 26 years of ser-
vice to the Jewish community of
Detroit will -be marked • by
Young Israel at a dinner at the
Mayfair, Dexter and Waverly,
Sunday evening, May 29. The
Detroit group was organized in
1923 by a handful of young men
and women.
One of the major features of

Young Israel work in this city
has been the sponsorship of
youth clubs for boys and girls
of junior and intermediate age.
Trained youth leaders conduct
a full program of cultural and
recreational activities on the
Sabbath, holidays and during
the week, for 14 youth groups
which, until completion of the
Young Israel building, meet in the
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah build-
ing and in private homes
throughout the Dexter-Linwood-
12th neighborhoods.

Officers on May 16
Nomination and election of
officers for t h e Northwest
Hebrew Congregation will take
place Monday evening, May 16,
at the Synagogue. At that time,
Cantor Goldrink of Miami Beach,
has been invited to give a con-
cert of Jewish music.
The recently-erected school of
the synagogue has been com-
pleted and the classes of the
United Hebrew Schools have
moved into the building. Appli-
cations for admission into the
Northwest Synagogue branch of
the United Hebrew Schools are
now taken in the office of the
school, Curtis at Santa Rosa,
weekday afternoons, it was an-
nounced by Abe Kasle, president
of the United. Hebrew Schools,
and Ira G. Kaufman, president
of the congregation.
May 7 is Designated

Saturday, May 7, has been
named Mothers' Day Sabbath by
the Women's League for Sab-
bath Observance.
All mothers are asked to in-
spire their daughters and all
daughters to honor their moth-
ers or the memory of their
mothers by attending services.
The rabbis have been asked to
dedicate . their sermons to the
occasion. Many sisterhoods are
arranging Kiddush for the
mothers and daughters.
On Wednesday, May 25, at
12:30 p.m. at Bnai Moshe syna-
gogue, the Women's Sabbath
League will be host to the wom-
en of the community at a com-
plimentary luncheon and sym-
posium on the subject "The Place
of the Woman in Jewish Life."
Participants will be Mesdames
Moses Lehrman, M. J. Wohlgel-
ernter and Zelda Rosenthal Sel-
mar. Mrs. Joshua Sperka will
preside.

of entertainment and games at
