The Blooming of Sol
Representative Sol Bloom, the
distinguished chairman of the
Foreign Affairs Committee of the
House who has just. Passed - to his
reward, in his recently published
autobiography told this one on
himself.
In his boyhood days, when he
was seeking. the road to wealth,
he had a hat check concession. It
wasn't very profitable, but Sol
found a way to make it bloom.
Just before the show was over,
he would eat a head of - garlic.
When the people came to get their
hats and coats, the smell would
overwhelm them and many:would
not wait for change.
At least, that is the story which
Uncle Sol told. So it would seem
to be more authentic than the
cherry tree story about Washing-
ton, which Sol Bloom as the chair-
man of the Washington Bi-Cen-
tennial, challenged.

"Is It True What They Say
About Cohen?"-a pamphlet pub-
lished by the American Jewish
Labor Council-is the first and
only popular piece of literature
on the topic of anti-Semitism
written since the close of World
War II.
Is It True What They Say
About Cohen? is written in
apparently provocative style
At the outset the problem
is posed in the form of repeating
common anti-Semitic comments.
For instance-to quote-"Cohen
is a character with a hooked nose
and hick lips • . ." "Wherever
ther's money, he's around. He
owns everything worth owning
and is out for more." "With his
global connections, he is forever
plotting war and revolution."
That's what they say about
Cohen. Is it True?" The pamph-
let proceeds to disprove this
quotation in a popular, clear and
convincing style.
• The liaMPhlet 'treats the Jew

as

a worker, soldier, professional,
small businessman, artist and
scientist. Each one of the charac-
ters is admirably illustrated by
Ad Reinhardt, outstanding artist
who prepared the illustrations
for the Races of Mankind and
other popular works.
This pamphlet is especially
geared for working men and
women.

a month, Ellis Radinsky, UPA
