Under the joint sponsorship of the Jewish War Veterans and

Bnai Brith Youth Organization, Harold Russell, amputee veteran and
winner of two academy awards, will visit Detroit Sunday, May 1.
Since he was wounded in 1944,. Russell has become a one-man
crusader for all men of goodwill.
On Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., at the Jewish Community 'Cen-
ter, he will speak before 1500
young people of the Bnai Brith

' Coincident with the Passover
holiday, the Zionist Organization
of America has launched a na-
tionwide registration of Ameri-
can Zionists in a "Book of Re-
membrance," signifying the
American Zionist role in the cre-
ation of the state of Israel.
Dedicated to the biblical theme
"If I Forget Thee, 0 Jerusalem,"
the "Book of Remembrance" will
be deposited for permanent safe-
keeping in the Central Library
of the Israeli Government in Je-
rusalem. It is planned to present
a facsimile copy to the Library
of Congress in Washington.
On the occasion of the launch-
ing of this nationwide registra-
tion, the ZOA addressed a proc-
lamation to all Zionists in Amer-
ica, to inscribe their names in
the Roll of Honor.
In connection with this nation-

registration, George Ed-

wards, acting mayor of Detroit,
inscribed his name on the docu-
ment at a ceremony in the may-
or's office, April 18.

Shifts to Reconstruction

Offer ZOA Peace Plan

NEW YORK (JTA). — More
than 300 American Zionist lead-
ers from all sections of the Unit-
ed States, attendn'ig -a special
nominating conference called by
the Committee for Progressive
Zionism, unanimously voted to
name a "Committee of 15" to ex-
plore the possibilities of achiev-
ing peace and unity in the Amer-
ican Zionist movement.
The C.P.Z. nominating confer-
ence, which had been scheduled
to name C.P.Z. candidates for the
presidency and other offices of
the Zionist Organization of Amer-
ica for presentation at the Z.O.A.
national convention on May 28,
voted to defer naming its slate of
candidates until May 1 in order
not to jeopardize the possibilities
of peace in the Zionist movement
in this country.
During the two-week interim
the "Committee of 15" will be
ready to "explore with all inter-
ested groups" ways and means of
unifying the various Zionist ele-
.ments in this country. • Unless
tangible results are achieved by
May 1, the resolution warned,
"the. C.P.Z. has no alternative
but to prepare to present its own
list of candidates at the next
Z.O.A. convention.
Other resolutions adopted by
the delegates included a demand
for a secret ballot at the ZOA
convention, greetings to President
Chaim Weizmann of Israel who
is now in this country, and hopes
for the speedy recovery of Dr.
Stephen S. Wise. Among the
speakers at the parley were Louis
Lipsky, a former ZOA president,
and Ezra Z. Shapiro, former
chairman of ZOA national ex-
ecutive and now vice-chairman
of CPZ.

NEW YORK, (JTA)—The Joint
Distribution Committee announc-
ed that its SOS (Supplies for
Overseas Survivors) Collection
has been terminated because the
JDC's task of assistance to Eu-
rope's Jews has "shifted from re-
lief to reconstruction and emi-
gration." The announcement was
made at a JDC meeting at the
Hotel Commodore here, attended

troit area Masons, Knights of
Columbus and Bnai Brith, which
will take place April 30 at the
St. Mary Magdalen Parish Hall,
Melvindale.
He is being assisted by the fol-
lowing committee heads: Abe
Satovsky and David Kurzman,
reception committee; Karl Berg,
tickets; Max H. Littky, speakers;
Samuel G. Bank, publicity.
Archie Cohen, Chicago attorney
and past president of District
Grand Lodge No. 6 will speak for
Bnai Brith. Also speaking will
be Dr. Herbert B. Hudnut, pastor
of Woodward Avenue Presbyter-
ian Church, and Bus Vanech, as-
sistant United States attorney
general.
The interfraternal dinner is
sponsored yearly by the Detroit
Round Table of Catholics Jews
and Protestants. This year the
Knights of Columbus are hosts.

While delegates from Zionist
districts throughout Michigan
made their reservations for the
second annual conference of the
Michigan Zionist Region, to be
held at the Pantlind Hotel, Grand
Rapids, Sunday, May 1, it was
announced by Morris M. Jacobs,

Middle East, he has visited Israel

has reconsidered its refusal to
admit Sidney Stanley to Israel
and that an entry • permit would
be `given him. Stanley, who is
stateless, was ordered expelled
from Britain following his in-
