Yahrzeit of Parents
/-

zeit" (anniversary of passing) of
his parents, Daniel A. Laven has
contributed $412 to the Beth
Yehudah Schools, thus paying the
entire operating deficit for one
day.
Laven eras , born in a small
town near Kiev
in Russia, at-
tended Jewish
schools there,
and arrived in
Canada in 1941.
He lived there,
working as a
movie operator,
until 1917. When
he arrived in
this country, he
went into the
D. A. Laven heating instal-
lation and appliance business,
and, except for a brief period,
has been in that business since.
He is now with the Central
Heating Co.
"I hope my grandchildren will
go to Beth Yehudah schools,"
says Laven. "It's a fine way for
them to get an American educa-
tion and a traditional Jewish
background combined."

undernourished girl decided to
adopt her and bring her to their
home.
Harry Park, a Detroiter who
escorted the child back for the
family said that there are hun-
dreds of young Jewish boys and
girls in orphanages throughout
France who have never known
parents or a home.
He added that one of the sad-
dest sights he had ever seen was
the pinched faces of her brother
and sister as they said goodbye
to Mimi, asking her to see if per-
haps someone in America would
care to adopt them.
Today, Mimi is beginning to be
happy and well fed with her fos-
ter parents in a Michigan town,
but behind in France she remem-
bers hundreds of other underfed
Jewish orphans who have not
been so lucky.

Four-year-old CHANA KIRSCH,
pouting defiance at the bustle
and 'bigness of the new world
she's entering, arrived on a DP
ship with her parents in time
to celebrate Passover in Am-
erica. For the Kirsches, as well
as hundreds of other families
brought to this country with the
aid of United Service for New
Americans this month, arriving
here for the Passover season
held a special significance: from
the barren and oppressive DP
camps, after many years of suf-
fering, they indeed "passed over"
to a new land of hope and free-
dom.
