BEST PASSOVER story of last
year had car dealer Larry Israel
and son, Harvey, in from Uni-
versity of Pittsburgh, as the
principal characters . . . Both
were bringing Passover dishes
down from the attic . . . They
grabbed the heavy box began
lugging it down stairs . . . when
halfway down, Harvey asked pop
to go a trifle slower . .. Larry,
however, continued his steady
pace, remarking, "What's the
matter, college life too soft for
you? . . . Harvey practically
pleaded with him to take it
easier . . . but was just reminded
that he'd probably be in better
condition if he didn't run around
nights on the campus . . . Finally
unable to restrain himself any
longer, Harvey yelled out . .
"I'm having enough trouble back
here dad, without having to
listen to any sermons! My belt
busted!"
Send in your prize Passover

Columbia.
The brief was filed in support
of Louis Bernard Lapides who
came to this country in 1922 and
went to Palestine in 1934. When
he returned to the United States
in 1947, he was told that he had
lost his citizenship in accord-
ance with the 1940 amendment
of the Naturalization Law.
Lapides now resides in New
York under parole. If he loses
his . case, his status would be-
come that -of a deportable alien
and a stateless Jew.
The Congress charged that
Section 404C of thq. Nationality
Act of 1940 establishes an un-
constitutional discrimination be-
tween naturalized and native
born Americans. The brief fur-
ther charges that this section was
enacted at that time for the
specific purpose of • depriving
American Zionists residing in
Palestine of U.. S. citizenship.
The brief cited an anti-Zion-
ist statement of Mr. Flournoy,
assistant legal advisor to the
State Department, during hear- i.
ings before the House committee
on the Nationality Act, in which
he said, "The principal cases
we have, I may say, are these
Zionists. They are principally
Russian and German Jews who
have been naturalized in this
country and later went to Pal-
estine."
