Women's League for Israel
Launches $500,000 Campaign

NEW YORK, (Palcor)—A drive
for $500,000 to maintain its four
hoines and training centers for
refugee girls in Israel and to erect
a fifth, home, was launched by
_ the Women's League for Israel.

At the group meetings of the
Detroit Chapter of Hadassah- on
April 5, the following officers
were elected for the 1949-50:

Women members of the Kvut-
zah Ivrith,- the Hebrew cultural
group of Detroit, will conduct a
meeting Saturday evening, April
16, in the auditorium of the Rose
Sittig Cohen Bldg.
The addresses will be centered
around "Women" and "Passover."
Chairman of the evening will be
Mrs. Meyer Mathis, who will also
talk on the late Palestinian He-
brew poetess, "Elisheva."
Other .speakers and their top-
ics are: Clara Kimel, "Women
in the Bible"; Mrs. Solomon Kas-
dan, "Woman and Her Part in
the Redemption from Egypt";
Mrs. Morris Lachover, "Woman
and Her Role in the Establish-
ment of the State of Israel"-; Mrs.
Devor a Dworkin. "Passover —
Then and Now." Mrs. Morris
Pflafkin will evaluate some of
the latest Hebrew and Yiddish
songs, some of which she will
sing.
Mrs. Shirley Sklash, Drora
Selesny and Mrs. Ilsa Roberg will
be in charge of the musical por-
tion of the program. Passover
refreshments will be served by
the Ladies' Auxiliary of the
Kvutzah Irvith.
The public is invited.

CONG. BETH TIKVAH MEN'S
CLUB -will sponsor a night of
games at 8:30 p. m. Sunday, May
1, at Jericho Temple. 11331 Lin-
wood. All members and friends
are invited to attend. Proceeds
will be used for charitable pur-
poses.

5,700 Jews Left Turkey
For Israel During Marcia
ISTANBUL, (JTA)—A record
number of 5,700 Jewish emigrants
left Turkey for Israel during
March. About 1,150 of them em-
barked directly at Izmir, while
the remainder sailed from this
Port for Haifa.

tion to be discussed include

The Parent-Teachers Organiza-
tion of the Central High Branch

ber, 1950, a Reuters dispatch
