Israel Movie, Rabbi Lehrman
Bistritzky on JNF's Spring
Event at Northwest Tuesday

Latest developments in Israel
and the major needs for con-
tinued land redemption will be
reviewed at the annual Spring
event of the Jewish National
Fund, to be held next Tuesday
evening, April 5, at Northwest
Hebrew Congregation.
Arranged under auspices of the
jewis'n. National Fund Council of

Council Berates
Kosher Butchers

The executive committee of the
Jewish Community Council, at
its meeting on March 24, passed
a resolution criticizing the-Kosher
butchers and asking the Coun-
cil's internal relations committee
to take whatever steps are nec-
essary to deal with the situation.
The action followed weeks of
protracted negotiations by a spe-
cial committee headed by Robert
Nathans with representatives of
the Kosher Butchers' Association.
At the conference . on March 18,
the minimum requests of the
Council were turned down by
the butchers. These requests are:

1. The butchers are to post bulletin
boards in each shop • showing the
names of the various cuts of Kosher
meat and their current prices.
2. The butchers are to write the
prices of each purchase upon • the
paper used to wrap it. They are not
being asked to write the kind and
quantity of meat on carry-out orders
but are to include this information
On delivery orders.
3. The butchers are to set up a
committee to work with the Council
on all matters pertaining to the com-
munity's interest in the sale of Kosher
;neat,

Although refusing to comply,
the butchers did not close the
door altogether. They offered to
bring the three requests to their
next meeting for reconsideration.
They refused to call a special
meeting to deal with this prob-
lem in order to avoid a delay
of two weeks more, and the ex-
ecutive committee's action fol-
lowed.
The Council has invited the
Vaad Harabonim to cooperate
with it and the rabbis have ac-
cepted. A -committee of •abbis
attended the internal relations
-committee Meeting March 30, to
plan further action.

The Declaration opens with these simple yet epochal wordsv
"Here they ( The Jews in Israel) wrote and gave the Bible to
the world." Sentence by sentence, the history of Jewish striving
to regain Israel is recounted. Clearly, the present problem in
Palestine is stated. Inspiringly, Israel's independence is de-
clared by the men who signed the document. Here are words

and deeds that every Jewish
child and adult will read with
pride stirring in his heart.
