Explores Allergies
Former Detroiter Dr. Harry F.
Swartz is the author of a book
soon to be released by Rutgers
University Press, entitled: "Aller-
gy. What Is Is. What To Do
About It."
Dr. Swartz is a native Detroit-
er, and a graduate of Detroit pub-
lic and high schools. He was 'grad-
uated from Cass Technical High
School at the age of 15 in 1925:
He then graduated from the Uni-
versity of Michigan, and the U.
of M. Medical School, both Sum-
ma Cum Laude.
During 1935 and 1936, he was
associated with Dr. Harry A.
Paysner, after which he went to
New York to specialize in allergy.
One in every 10 Americans
suffers from a major form - of al-
lergy, Dr. Swartz declared in his
new book. Half of the nation may
sometimes have a . mild allergy
and the rest could get one under
the right conditions.
Emotional upsets bring on al-
lergic attacks if the pathways of
reaction have already been set
up, Dr. Swartz says. Basically,
the reactions are due to release
of a subsance, histamine, from
body cells. But "the emotional
factor almost always plays a role
in the symptoms of surgery."
