Favors Shapero for Judge
Editor, the Jewish News:
I am glad to join with prom-
inent Jewish leaders in sponsor-
ing the candidacy of Nelson S:
Shapero for Judge of Common
Pleas Court at the April 4 elec-
tion. Among the prominent De-
troiters who are favoring Mr.
Shapero's candidacy are Louis
and Jerry Bielfield, Selma L.
Becker, Maurice Aronsson, Jose-
phine Stern Weiner, Gertrude
Rush Willems, Saul Lewis, Mrs.
Dora Ehrlich,. Herman Jacobs.
Mr. Shapero advocates night
sessions for Judges of the Com-
mon Pleas Court. He believes
there are many people to whom
the loss of a day's pay in appear-
ing in court during the day is a
hardship. We believe that Mr.
Shapero is an able man who will
benefit our court system. Do you
wonder some of us are giving up
practically all our time working
for his election?
ATHEL F. DENHAM.

Favors Judge Drake •
Editor, The Jewish News:
The impartiality and ability of
former Judge Jesse Drake impels
me to write and to urge his • re-
election on April 4. Judge Drake
has practiced law here for 30
years, taught law at Wayne Uni-
versity, and presently is Special
Assistant to the U. S. Distriet At-
torney. He helped organize the
school system in the Philippines.
He • is rated as preferred by the
Detroit Citizens League, was
recommended editorially by the
Detroit Free Press and has been
commended by the News and
Times.

Came in the Middle
A writer ran int• Warner Pro-

Wald and_ said, "I saw your 'Don
Juan' picture last night." "How
did you like it?" beamed Jerry.
"Well," the writer replied, "I
walked out in the middle." Wald
went white, then muttered, "But
why?" "Because," answered the
writer, "I came in in the middle!"

QUALITY

BERLIN (JTA)—United States
Army , headquarters announced
that German provincial authori-
ties in Bavaria have been asked
by Gen. Lucius D. Clay, U. S.
military governor of Germany, to
examine the evidence against use
Koch, notorious German war
criminal, with a view toward
prosecuting her in the German
courts.
The announcement also re-
vealed that Gen. Clay had prom-
ised the . German authorities that
they would "be assisted in every
way possible," in their_ efforts' to
prosecute Frau Koch, who has
been charged with ordering lamp-
shades made from the skins of
murdered concentration camp in-
mates. The statement also said
that the Koch woman could not
be tried again by the Army. This
development was interpreted by
observers here to mean that Gem
Clay was applying pressure on
the German authorities to • try
her.
