FINALISTS IN THE Annual
Beauty-Personality Contest spon-
sored by this column will be an-
nounced next week ... The girls
selected from the pictures that
have been submitted will be
judged .. . in person . . . at the
Spring Dance of Bnai Brith
Young Women's Council . . .
March 26 . . . at Northwest He-
brew Congcegation . in accord-
ance with the contest procedure
of having the awards presented
at a different community affair,
each year.

LOU STOBER, clothing man
out Michigan Avenue way, re-
ports couple who came in store
for gent's suit . . . The two dis-
agreed over material and style,
says Lou, and the wife lost her
temper . . . "Buy whatever you
want," she said. "You're the one
who'll wear it." . . . To which
the husband meekly replied,
"Well, I didn't suppose you'd
wear the jacket!"

CRIME PREVENTION Bureau
of Petoskey Police Station is mak-
ing commendable effort toward
aiding . community- youth . . . by
setting up temporary playgrounds
. . . with cooperation of civic-
minded folks who own empty
lots ... Fact that City budget al-
lows nothing for such endeavor
means that the bureau must de-
pend on other means to raise
needed funds . . . Knights of
Pythias Lodge No. 53 will lend
much help with a boxing show
. . . sanctioned by Amateur Ath-
letic Union . . . April 1 . . . in
gym of Central High . . . Pro-
ceeds will be turned over to the
bureau for purpose of aiding in
this grand project . . . It is only
too bad that there are the few
whose selfishness and inconsider-
ation must be taken out on the
young folks . . . Last year, with
permission of the owner of a lot
at Boston and Wildemere, it was
leveled, cleared of rocks and
otherwise placed in good order
.. . After all this, the kids were
kicked off by the owner .. . who
probably figured it was now too
good to "waste" . . . and turned
it into a parking lot • . . with
a monthly rental fee . . . How-
ever, there are, at present, six
empty lots which already have
been leveled . . . and will be
readied for summer activity . . .
Officer Herb Lawler, chairman
of the Petoskey Recreation Com-
mittee, is worthy of public cita-
tion for his tireless efforts in be-
half of better recreational facili-
ties in the community . . . With
more people like Lawler and the
others . . perhaps less young-
sters will be forced into the dan-
gers that come with playing in
streets and alleys . . . and the
curbing of threats of juvenile de-
linquency will not create so great
a problem.

LETTER FROM AIR FORCE
based in Tokyo asks for orches-
trations and sheet music . . .
"We've got a five-piece Japanese
band to play for us and we're dy-
ing to hear any kind of American
music. Makes no difference how
old it is, just so long as it's amer-
jean!" ... So, if any music men
can be of help to the boys, let
us know and we'll have the mate-
rial picked up . . . The fellows in
Tokyo will thank you.

THE LADS OF Seymour Sobole
AZA group are intent upon send-
ing a well-dressed team to the
District Basketball Finals, being
held this April in Omaha . .
and striving to raise enough cash
, to rig the boys in uniforms that'll
razzle-dazzle their opponents . . .
and set the spectators a't-laping
. That's prime reason for their
"Club 661" . . . March 12 . .. at
Central High ... with nitery at-
-) mosphere to include large floor
show and Irving Fields render-
ing rhythms for dancing.
