Taft Gives First
Memorial Speech

The Honorable Charles P. Taft
of Cincinnati, son of William
Howard Taft and immediate past
president of the Federal Council
of the Churches of Christ in
Ameriea, will be the speaker of
the first annual Leo M. Franklin
memorial lecture at the Sabbath
eve services of Temple Beth El
at 8:15 p.m. Friday, March 4.
Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will
officiate at the services and will
introduce the guest speaker.
The Leo M. Franklin Memorial
Fund was established to perpetu-
ate the memory of Dr. Franklin
in ways that will reflect some of
the outstanding interests of his
career as a civic and spiritual
leader in Detroit and Michigan.
One expression of this mem-
orial project has already taken
form through the establishment
of the annual Leo M. Franklin
lectureship, which will be given
each year on the. Friday eve-
ning closest to Dr. Franklin's
birthday.

To Participate in Purim Beth Yehudah Ladies
To Mark 35th Year, •
Festival Next Monday

The March meeting of the Sis-
terhood of Temple Israel will
take the form of a Purim festival,
featured by the presentatiOn of
an original one, act play "In. a
-Persian Palace," written by Mrs.
Harry Landsman.
Mrs. William P. Greenberg will
direct and produce the play,
which will be given in the
Lecture Hall of the Detroit In-
stitute of Arts Monday, March
14. In the cast will be Mesdames
Nathan Apsel, Jack Borsand,
Jacob A. Citrin, Louis J. Klavons,
Tom Mittledorf, Harold Shackne,
Harry Singer and John West.
Mrs. Phillip Arnold is in charge
of costumes and Mrs. Joseph
Bean will be in charge of stage
settings.
Mrs. Sidney Rosen, program
chairman, announces that a
luncheon will be served at 12:30,
with members of the Sisterhood
board as hostesses.
All members and their friends
are invited to attend by Mrs.
Samuel Blacher, president.

Plans Games Program

Mrs. Sam L. Schneider, presi-
dent of Beth Aaron Sisterhood,
announces that the group's an-
nual games party will be held at
8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30,
at the Synogogue, Wyoming and
Thatcher.
Mrs. Ben Wasserman is party

Take League' Contests

Temple Israel defeated a fight
ing Northwest Hebrew quintet,
:23-21, in last week's inter-syna-
.gogue basketball league games.
Mort Alger was high scorer with
10 points.
The league-leading Bnai David
squad rolled up a lop-sided 57-20
victory at the expense of third
place Shaarey Zedek. Leading
the scorers were Paul Silver-
stein with 13 points, Elio Rott
and Maynard Flusty • with 12
each, and Don Kahan with 11.
League games are played at
7:30 p.m. each Monday in the
Temple Beth El gym. Everybody
is welcome.

Cantors Reset Concert
To Tuesday, March 29

The Cantors' Association of
Detroit has changed the date of its
concert to Tuesday, March 29 at
Bnai David Synagogue.
The program is being prepared
through the musical committee
and directed by Dan Frohman,
musical director. Mrs. Ruth Adler
and Mrs. Helen Rosenfeld head
the ticket committee.

UAHC Launches Third
U. S. Jewish Cavalcade

With rapidly mounting mo-
mentum attesting its popularity,
the third annual American Jew-
ish Cavalcade has just been
launched by the Union of Ameri-
can Hebrew Congregation, it
was announced by Dr. Maurice
N. Eisendrath, UAHC president.
Designed as a program of "re-
ligious rededication," the Caval-
cade this year will function
through March, April and May.
Enlisting the active cooperation
of approximately -90 Liberal
rabbis, who will visit nearly as
many communities, the Caval-
cade's spiritual emissaries will
carry the message of Liberal
Judaism to congregations, sister-
hoods, brotherhoods, interfaith
groups and institutions of higher
learning. The Cavalcade is un-
der the pergonal supervision of
Rabbi Louis I. Egelson, adminis-
trative secretary of the Union of
American Hebrew Congregations.

Dr. Glazer to Analyze
Child's Religious Queries
In Sisterhood Lecture

The opening lecture in the
second annual course "The Jew-
ish Child in the Modern World,"
sponsored by the Sisterhood of
Temple Beth El, will be held at
11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the
Brown Memorial Chapel.
Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will
speak on "Answering the Basic
Questions of Children on God,
Prayer and Religion." The course
is open to Sisterhood members
and their friends.
