The deep division of my life manifested itself completely
in the four years I spent in Geneva. This tug of war between
my scientific inclinations and fly absorption in the Zionist

been a- time when I could feel justified in withdrawing, ex-
cept temporarily—and even then in a sort of strategic re-

that there was a crisis, and always my conscience forbade

more than defense forces. Israel
agreed to withdraw forces from

Allied Jewish Campaign
Commences '49 Activities

Detroit'i 1949. Allied Jewish Campaign is
well on the way to complete organization • for
the tremendous effort to secure local Jewry's
share in the $250,000,000 United Jewish
Appeal goal for rescue work and Israel's up-
building.
The Detroit Allied Jewish Campaign will,
as in the past; include this community:s share
in the UJA as well as the funds necessary for
all local and national causes.
In addition to a number of events planned
by the Women's and Junior. Divisions, the over-
all campaign organization is planning numerous
important meetings for the enrollment of
workers and the enlistment of contributors.
The first important rally in behalf of the
drive was sponsored Tuesday evening at the
Jewish Center, with Richard H. S. Crossman,
M. P., who was a = 5member of the Anglo-
American Committee on Palestine, as guest
speaker. The Jewish Welfare Federation, parent
body of the Allied Jewish Campaign, also co-
sponsored the appearance here on Monday
evening of Eliahu Elath (Epstein), Israel's
Ambassador to the U. S.
The annual meeting of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, on Sunday, March 13, will be ad-
dressed by Dr. William Haber, who recently
returned from his post as Adviser on Jewish
Affairs to the U. S. Military Government in
Germany.
On March 22, the Allied Jewish Campaign
will bring to Detroit the brilliant Israeli repre-
sentative to the United Nations, Aubrey. S. Eban.
An urgent request has been made for
volunteer workers for the drive. Men and
women, young peoiSle and leaders in organiza-
tions, are asked to call the campaign office,
WO. 5-3939, to offer their services.
