At the Farband's Annual Concert
City-wide interest is being
shown in the annual concert of
the Jewish National Workers Al-
liance (Farband), to be held this
Sunday -evening, Feb. 27, at the
Jewish Center.
' Highlighted by the three-scene
play, "The Last Picture," under
the direction of Menahem Rubin,
the concert , will feature three
other New York Stars—Judy
Knight, Jan Schaff and Al Harris.
M. Goldoftas, who is in charge
of arrangements; ; announces that
there will .be special acts, songs
and recitations, including selec-
tions from the works of Peretz,
Bialik, Glatstein, Magner and
others.
Tickets for this concert, ar-
ranged under auspices of the Far
band City Committee, are avail-
able at the Labor Zionist Insti-
tute, the Jewish Center, Metro
Music House and Zion Book

"The Illegals," the stirring
film that 'pictures the tragic
journey of Jewish refugees to
, Palestine, begins its midwest
premiere showing this Sunday at
the Abington Theatre, 12th at
Seward, under the auspices of
Cinema Lodge of Bnai Brith.
Actual refugees — the young
and the old—make„; up the cast
of this epic picture. To photo-
graph the weary journey of the
refugees, - war correspondent
Meyer Levin, `novelist and di-
rector of "The Illegals," • joined
an actual expedition as it sur-
mounted obstacle after obstacle,
with the aid of the Jewish, under-
ground, to reach its ultimate des-
tination in Israel.
Only two members of the cast
are not members of the refugee

now Levin's wife.
All proceeds of the Detroit
showing will be used for chari-
table purposes. "The Illegals"
will be shown - coritimiously Sun-

In Basketball Battle
Temple Beth El pushed North-
west Hebrew into the Inter-Con-
gregation Baskqball league cel-
lar by beating them in an over-
time contest, 32-26. Beth E1
grabbed a 11-10 halftime lead, but
Northwest tied it up at 26 all at
the end of regulation time. Har-
vey Schwartz ended his league
competition by scoring 14 points
f6r -Beth El. Leading Northwest
were Dave Pearlman and Hal
Trotsky with 8 and 7 points re-
spectively.
Shaarey Zedek added prestige
by thumping Temple Israel, 24-13.
Playing the 'control type of bas-
ketball, Shaarey Zedek easily out-
played Israel. The score was 0-6
at halftime but Shaarey Zedek
pulled away with 10 points in the
third. period. Shel. Fuller, led
Shaarey Zedek with 10 points,
Fred Horowitz, added 5 more.
For the losers, ,Mort Alger and
Bruce. Wayne each tallied 5
point.s.

Eliezer Sukenik, director 'of the
Museum of Jewish Antiquities
Of the -Hebrew University in
Jerusalem, who arrived by air
from Amsterdam, brought with
him five of 11 manuscripts which
believed to be the oldest
works in the Hebrew language.
The manuscripts were unearthed
