Congress for 1950

NEW YORK, . (JTA)—The ex-
ecutive of the Jewish Agency
.meeting in plenary session here,
decided that the next World Zi-
onist Congress be held in 1950,
rather than this year, it was an-
nounced by Bed Locker, chair-
man of the Jerusalem section of
the executive, who is presiding
at the session.
Mr. Locker also announced that
the executive has decided to hold
its next -plenary session at the
end of April in Israel. The next
meeting of the Zionist Actions
Committee will be held early in
May this year, also in Israel, he
said.
Participating in the current de-
liberations of the Agency execu-
tive are its two chairmen—Dr.
Abba Hillel Silver, chairman of
the American section, and Mr.
Locker—and the following execu-
tive members: Prof. Selig Brodet-
sky, Leon Gellman, Rabbi Wolf
Gold,Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Dr.
Israel Goldstein, Dr. Ha y i m
Greenberg, Mrs. Rose Halprin,

Five Detroiters will join a United Jewish Appeal delega-
tion to Israel, beginning Monday, Feb. 21. They are Herman
L. Lewis, Jr., Hyman Safran, Max Osnos and Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob Bonin.
The tour will start in Paris, leave from there for Rome,
and thence by air to Israel.

"Henrietta Szeld" reception cen-

Israel.
Mrs. Vera Weizmann, wife of
the Israeli President, officially
opened the center. Chief Rabbi
Isaac Herzog and U. S. envoy to
Israel James G. McDonald ad-
dressed the gathering. The cen-
ter is located in the Jezreel Val-
ley near the Alonim settlement.

14 Forums, Haber's Address at
Federation Annual Meeting

Four open forums dealing with
community needs in 1949 will be
discussed at the annual meeting
of the Jewish Welfare Federation
on Sunday, March 13. Plans were
made at a meeting of 40 com-
munity leaders on Sunday, at the
Jewish Center, under the chair-
manship of Julian H. Krolik, Fed-
eration president.
The forum discussions, at 3:30
p.m., will be followed by an ad-
dress. by Dr. William Haber, who
recently returned from Europe,
where he was advisor to the U. S.

Army on Jewish affairs in the
American zone. There will be
a buffet reception in honor of
Dr. and Mrs. Haber after the
forums.

The East Side Merchants As-
sociation's monthly meeting was
/addressed by Edward M. -Swan,
executive secretary of the Na-
tional Association for the Ad-
vancement of Colored People,
who paid high tribute to the
work of the East Side Merchants
Association, pointing out especi-
ally the fine work which has
been done by Samuel Lieberman
and Meyer Silverman in building
the type of organization which
was making its work felt within
the larger community.
Mr. Swan pointed- out that a
much more wholesome inter-
racial relationship now exists
then was ever thought possible
a few years ago.
Mr. Swan thanked the East
Side Merchants Association for
the wholehearted support which
they had given to the program
of the NAACP and said that 'it
would not have been possible for
NAACP to do many of the things
which they had done had it not
been for their support.
