WASHINGTON, D. C.—Bnai Brith was . the only Jewish organ-
ization invited to enter a float in the parade that followed Presi-
dent Truman's inauguration. This float, shown above, was seen
by a million spectators along the line of march and by millions more
through television. As it passed before President Truman, he greeted
it enthusiastically and called Vice President Barkley's attention
to it. The gigantic Menorah, Bnai Brith's symbol, containing real
flames, slowly revolved as the float moved down Pennsylvania
Avenue. Under it are the words: "Bnai Brith, for 105 years America's
oldest and largest Jewish service organization." Between pictures
of Presidents John Tyler and Harry Truman was the line: "1843-
1949—From Tyler To Truman." Rising from the rear of the float
is a reproduction of the U. S. Bill of Rights, with the leading Bnai
Brith activities listed on it: "Champion of Equal Rights, Service In
U. S. Wars, Youth, Character Building, Interfaith Good Will, Com-
munity Service, Aid to Hospitalized Veterans."
