The donor luncheon of North-
weU Congregation's Sisterhood
will be held Feb. 9 at 12 noon
in the social hall of the syna-
gogue, Curtis and Santa Rosa.

will highlight the occasion with
"Edward, My Son," the popular
Broadway play.
Members of the Northwest Sis-
terhood Choral group will ren-
der selections.
Mrs. Joseph M. Markel, Sis-
terhood president, announces that
the Sisterhood - sponsored Sab-
bath Eve service at 8 p. m. Fri-
day, Feb. 18, will be addressed
by Miss Esther Gershoni, a young
Jewess from India who is study-
ing at Jewish Teachers College
in New York, who will describe
the life of Jews in India.

Beth El. Scouts Hold
COurt of Honor Feb. 9

The movie "1948 International
Scout Jamboree," will be featured
at the Temple Beth El Scout
Court of Honor at 7:45 p.m. Wed-
nesday, Feb. 9, at the Brown
Memorial Chapel, Woodward at
Gladstone. Advancement cards
and insignia will be presented to
the Scouts and Troop 76 will re-
ceive its national charter as a 30-
year troops
Eagle Scout Sidney Klaus, who
attended the International Jam-
boree held in France, will speak.
Scoutmaster Sidney L. Cohn,
committee chairman Harold M.
Shapero, and Men's Club presi-
dent Arthur H. Rice will receive
desk flag set awards as leaders
of Troop 76, which won the North
Woodward Community Invite-a-
Boy campaign with a member-
ship increase of 166 percent.

Bnai David Gathering
To Honor Sisterhood

Cong. Bnai David will dedicate
the fifth in its series of Friday
night gatherings to the Bnai Da-
vid Sisterhood, which serves the
congregation and its religious
school.
A brief service at 8:30 p.m. will
begin the program. At the gath-
ering- to follow in the social hall,
the Sisterhood will present a can-
tata written by Mrs. Joshua Sper-
ka. The newly-organized Sister-
hood Glee Club will participate.

Temple Israel Marks
Boy Scout Sabbath at
Services Next Friday

National Boy Scout Sabbath
Eve will be observed at services
of Temple Israel at 8:30 p.m. Fri-,
day, Feb. 11, in the Lecture Hall
of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Boy Scout Troop No. 146 and
the Cub Pack of 100 boys, spon-
sored by the Men's Club of Tem-
ple Israel will participate in the
service. The Ner Tamid medal,
will be presented to Roger Per-
nick and Jack Hurwitz.
Rabbi Leon Farm will preach
on the subject "The Heritage of
Abraham Lincoln".

Nearly all Detroit Jewish
schools have enrolled to partici-
pate in the special Hamisha Asar
b'Shevat tree-planting project of
the Jewish National Fund, Arthur
Shutkin, JNF director, reported
this week.
Congregational schools of Shaa-
rey Zedek and Bnai Moshe, the
United Hebrew Schools, Farband
Schools, the Yeshivoth and other
Yiddish schools, as well as Car-
mel School and several other pri-
vate schools are participating in
the project.
A call has gone forth to all
teachers, principals and pupils in
local schools to participate in this
effort on the occasion of Hamisha
Asar b'Shevat, the Israeli Arbor
Day.
At the same time, all Detroit

Jews are called upon to plant
trees through the JNF in Israel,
in honor or in memory of their
dear ones, on this occasion.

NEW YORK, (JTA)—A $100,-
000 memorial fund to support
Judah L. Magries Fellowships in
commemoration of the "charac-
ter, attainment and ideals" of
the late president of the Hebrew
University, was " announced b y
the New York Corenmunity Fund.
Mrs. Frieda Schiff Warburg, wi-
dow of Felix M. Warburg, is the
founder of the Fund.
The fellowships are to apply in
the field of medicine and allied
sciences. It is the purpose of
the fund to enable students and
physicians residing in Israel to
conitnue their studies abroad, if
they assume a moral obligation
to return to teaching, research
and practice in Israel at the end
of their fellowship terms. Can-
didates will be nominated by the
governing body of the Hebrew
University - Hadassah Medicial
School.
