President, Ladies' Auxiliary of JNF
Never before has the Jewish National
Fund been such an important factor in
the upbuilding of the Jewish State of
Israel. Being the official land buying
agency in Israel today places upon us a
terrific responsibility and gives us a rare
opportunity.
During the entire time that England
held the mandate
over Palestine the
maximum immigra-
tion was limited to
1,500 a month. To-
day we are bring-
ing in as many as
20,000 every month.
The speed with
which we can take
our people out of
DP camps in Eu-
rope dependS- upon
how much land we
own. There are still
thousands of du-
mams of land avail-
able, and it be-
hooves us to pur- Mrs. Rosenthal
chase them as quickly as is possible. The
only thing that limits immigration into
Israel today is the lack of sufficient land
on which to settle them.
By your contribution to Jewish Na-
tional Fund you -have helped much to
alleviate this situation. Your continued
cooperation is urgently needed, and we
wish to take this opportunity to thank
you for your generous share in land re-
demption in Israel.
I also wish to thank Mrs. Peter Chod-
oroff, our fund raising chairman, for her
conscientious efforts in behalf of our cam-
paign, also her advisory :committee,. the
various secretaries and chairman and the
entire donor staff. To them our heartfelt
thanks for their seemingly never ending
work in this drive•. Also • our thanks to
the press for their earnest co-operation,
and to all those who helped in their

Greetings From J.N.F. Council
0, say can you see
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watch'd,
Were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets red glare—
The bombs bursting in air—
Gave proof through the night,
That our flag was still there
0, say does that star-spangled banner
yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home
of the brave?
Eighteen years ago, a small group of women undertook an heroic task
of building an organization for land redemption in Eretz Israel. Out of
this group, first small in numbers, has grown a powerful movement which
has helped immeasurably in increasing the sums gathered in Detroit for
the acquisition of the sacred soil of Israel for the Jewish people.
The work of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Jewish National Fund has
intensified the interest of many thousands of Detroit Jews in Zionist activi-
ties. Through the year-round projects, our people have participated in
redeeming the soil and planting trees, helping to make the land habitable

As long as the heart of the Jew beats
And his eye is turned toward Zion,
We hold firmly to our hope,
The dream of two thousand years—
That ours is to be a free people—
In the land of Zion—and Jerusalem.
