Council of State. Mr; Remez said
that 1500 of these children were
in the Nazareth area.
Lewis Browne, 51-year-old au-

that he had taken his own life
and begged forgivenes. A former

CAPT. ABRAHAM AREST
fought in most of the Arab-
engineered flare-ups. In 1929, he
participated in the defense of
Jerusalem during the Wailing
Wall disturbances and in 1936
was active in defending the Holy

A .ipnember of the Histadrut
General Council, he 'firmly be-

Civil Rights Group
Reports .to Williams
Fair . employment practice
legislation is high on the list of
recommendations submitted to
Governor G. Mennen Williams
by the Michigan Committee on
Civil Rights. "Perhaps in no
other area are the vicious effects
of discrimination so readily ap-
parent as in employment," said
the committee in its 32 page re-
port to the Governor.
The report includes recom-
mendations for a legislative pro-
gram in nine different categories:
Accommodation,' health, educa-
tion, housing, civil rights, aboli-
tion of segregation in the Michi-
gan National Guard, education in
inter-group problems for Michi-
gan State , Police, a law requiring
identification of individual/spon-
sors of hate literature, court ac-
tion to have the Calahan Act de-
cldred unconstitutional, investi-
gation into the treatment of mi-
grant workers and the abolition
of coroner's juries, in addition to
fair employment legislation.
The Governor's office has an-
nounced formation of a civil
rights advisory committee which
will consider this and other such
proposals and make recommen-
dations to the Governor. The
'Most Rev. Frpncis J. Haas,
Bishop of Grand Rapids, is chair-
man. The committee includes
Rabbi B. Benedict Glazer, Ralph
Helper and Jacob Kellman of
Detroit.
