Street Change in Warsaw
WARSAW, (JTA)—The Esper-
anto Society of Poland has pro-
tested to the Warsaw mayor
against the city's decision to re-
name Zamenhof Street. The
city plans to give the street the
name it carried some 20 years
ago before it was changed in
honor of Ludvig Zamenhof, a
Polish Jew who founded Esper-
anto. The new name will be
"Dzika Street."

FEDERAL SUBSIDY

Recently a new policy has been
under discussion concerning aid
to higher education. The Federal
subsidy called for amounts to
$1,000,000 a year for these young-
sters who need such aid.! Ability
of course must be the only real
basis for awarding such scholar-
ships, which would range from
$500 to $1.000 a year, depending
on the need.
Would this plan work? The
answer is evidenced in how well
the GI plan has worked out.
We have spent billions for
war, millions after a war to
arm ourselves to the teeth. but
how much for peace? In the
past, history has continued in
its cycle. Generation after gen-
eration have tried to break
this mad repetition. but with-
out success. Therefore we have
left as our only answer—edu-
cation.

PEACE BE OURS?.
This question will come before
the 81st Congress next year. Will
this body feel the expenditure
necessary too great on the al-
ready burdened taxpayers to
visualize the true value of the
bill?
The sum is great. I agree, but
the results will prove of tremen-
dous worth—our first real chance
to help a few thousand each year
to learning so that a better edu-
cated America can help the world
to a golden era of peace.
