Pollack Named to Head
Yeshivah '49 Yearbook

David Pollack has been named
chairman of the Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah 1949 Yearbook, to be
issued in conjunction with the
annual patrons' dinner to take
place March 27 at Northwest 'He-
brew Congregation. Mr. Pollack,
son-in-law of - Rabbi .Moses
Fischer, is chairman of Vaad
Hachinuch of Beth Yehudah

At Sabbath' morning services
Dec. 25 at Shaarey Zedek, Rabbi
Moi-ris Adler will preach on
"Plain Talk at This Season."

officiate, assisted by the choir,
under the direction of Henri
Goldberg.
The annual congregational
Hanukah dinner will be held at
6:30 p. m. Sunday, Dec. 26. Sun-
day morning, Dec. 26, all depart-
ments of the religious 'school will
hold a Hanukah assembly. Mon-
day evening, Dec. • 27, the Cub
Scouts will devote this meeting
to the significance of Hanukah.
Tuesday, Dec., 28, the adult
classes also will deal with the
holiday. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at
8:15 p. m. the Young People's Sa).-
ciety will hold a Hanukah pro-
gram in the social hall. On Sun-
day, Jan. 2, an additional school
Hanukah assembly will take
place.

Dr. Glazer Will Preach
Hanukah Sermon; Family
Holiday Supper Dec. 23

Temple Beth El will observe
its annual Hanukah family Sab-
bath this Friday, Dec. 24, 8:15
p. m. Dr. B. Benedict Glazer
will preach a Hanukah sermon
on "The Dauntless Spirit of the
Maccabees—Then and Now". The
following members of the Young
People's Club will participate in
the services: Virginia Barnett,
president of the Young People's
Club, Albert Coleman and HOw-
ard Freeman. The Temple quar-
tet and a choir of 35 from the
junior and senior department of
the religious school, under the
direction of Mr. and Mrs. JaSon
H. 'nekton, will render a special
program of Hanukah and litur-
gical music. A social 'hour under
the auspices of the Sisterhood
will follow the services.
The annual Hanukah family
supper will be held Tuesday,
Dec. 28, 6 p. m., in the Temple
social hall. The kindling of the
Hanukah lights and the singing
of Hanukfti songs will be per-
formed by the Religious School
Choir. A program will be ren-
dered by the Temple quartet.

Wednesday, December 29 at
8:30 p. m., Bnai David Men's Club
will hold it's annual Hanukah
program and president's night,
with Harold Silver, executive di-
rector of the Jewish Social Ser-
vice Bureau as guest speaker.
Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka will
elaborate on the highlights of the
holiday and Cantor Hyman J.
Adler will render liturgical music.
Joseph Baker is entertainment
chairman. Lou Weiss will be
master of ceremonies.
The Bnai David Boys Club,
sponsored by the Men's Club, is
leading in the Congregational
Boy's Club Basketball League.
The next game will be with the
Northwest Boy's Club at Temple
Beth El Dec. 27.
The club consists of boys 13 to
16 who meet every Sunday morn-
ing at the synagogue. All boys, of
those ages are welcome to join.

For New Year Sermons

Following a long - established
custom at Temple Israel, Rabbi
Leon Fram will devote his ser-
mons on ,the Sabbaths immed-
iately preceding and following
the New Year to retrospect and
prediction.
"1948 in Human Progress" will
be his subject, at 8:30 p. m. Fri-
day, Dec. 31, in the lecture hall
of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
"1949 in Social Promise" will be
his subject, Friday night, Jan.
7.
The Religious School of Tem-
ple Israel will be closed the
weekends of Dec. 25 and 26, and
Jan. 1 and 2. Sessions will re-
sume Saturday, Jan. 8, and Sun-
day, Jan. 9:

informal campaign to purchase a
specially-built Lincoln limousine
for President of Israel Dr. Chaim
Weizmann was launched here by
a group of Philadelphians. Dr.
Weizmann has already indicated
that he will accept the vehicle.

speak on "Torah and the Con-
stitution of Israel."
The local membership drive of
Mizrachi is gaining impetus in
accordance with reports made at
the meting held Saturday eve-
ning at Congregation Bnai Moshe
when a capacity audience filled
the auditorium. Sol Edelman e-
pqrted on the enrollment of life
members, and Zvi Tomkiewich
submitted the names of 75 new
members enrolled last week.
