Advance preparations w e r e
made for the formal openirog of
Detroit's 1949 Histadrut cam-
paign, to take place at Music Hall,
on Sunday, Jan. 9, at an enthusi-
astic rally at the Labor Zionist
Institute at which reports were
submitted on the national con-
ference in New York at which
the $10,000,000 drive was
launched for the National .Corn-
mittee for Labor Israel.
Morris L. Schaver delivered the
principal address and described
the skillful fashion in which Jew-
ish workers are preparing the
desperately needed tools for de-
fense and are at the same time
continuing to expand Israel's
economy. Reviewing his experi-
ences in Israel, Schaver praised
the Jewish pioneers and spoke of
the "miracle of the new factories
already built and now in opera-
tion." Referring to Histadrut en-
terprises, he declared:
"I personally felt proud of our
efforts for Histadrut because it
was Solel Boneh, the Histadrut
contracting and construction com-
pany, that responded to the call
and did the major job."
Schaver told of the thrill he
had in viewing the Haifa Bay
area together with a former De-
troiter, Victor Avrunin, who
holds an important engineering
post with Solel Boneh, and with
Abba Hushi, Histadrut specialist
on Arab affairs and unofficial
"mayor" of Haifa. Describing how
Acre is being rebuilt, he aded:

"Nothing will stop the Jews of
Israel from building the most
productive and most beautiful
country in the world."
A call had gone forth to 250
organizations, including lands-
manshaften and synagogues,. in-
viting them to select delegates to
the Jan. 9 demonstration, Louis
Levine, chairman of organiza-
tions, announced. Yehudith Gins-
burg, who as leader of 4,000 Is-
raeli nurses identified with His-
tadrut participated - in heavy fight-
ing, will be one of the guests on
that occasion.
