One of the major American
authorities in the field of minor-
ity relations is Carey McWilliams,
who will speak in Detroit Sun-
day evening, Dec. 5, at -the Jew-
ish Community Center, under
the auspices of the American
Jewish Congress Council.
The California attorney has
devoted years of intensive study
to minorities. His books, includ-
ing "Prejudice" and "Brothers
Under the Skin," have received
widespread atterion in t'his
country. McWilliams' latest work,
"A Mask For Privilege," pub-
lished early in 1948, is a critical
analysis of anti-democratic prac-
tices which affect the whole
fabric of American life.
He will speak on the subject
"Racial Relations in the lost-

Schools and kindergarten, and

11 at the Fort Wayne Hotel, will
be devoted to charitable causes,

The late Fred M. Butzel 'was
one of the co-founders of Self-
Help in 1943 and was the organi-
zation's honorary chairman until
his death.

of Henry Morgenthau, Jr., gen-
eral chairman of the United Jew-
ish Appeal, the Women's Division
of the Jewish Welfare Federation,
of Detroit is planning a collec-
tion day for cash on \ Monday,
Nov. 29, under the leadership of
Mrs. Daniel Krouse, chairman of
the collection committee. Cash
pickups will be made Monday
morning and early afternoon.
The collectors will bring their
returns to the four collections
depots in the homes. of Mesdames
