ODED LIEBERMAN, in wheel chair, Israeli wounded hero, is shown accepting the car from ADOLPH ROBISON, National Mate- rial for Israel chairman. The elderly man is ZVI LIEBERMAN, father of the boy. * * • NEW YORK—A car, especially designed for parapatic use, was presented on Nov. 16 to an...Israeli hero, Oded Lieberman, by Adolf Robison, national chairman -of Material ' for Israel, and Sally Fields, secretary of the adminis- trative council of the Detroit Bnai Brith A_ia to Israel. Oded Lieberman, who is 22, spent five years fighting in Israel and for the Allied cause as a soldier in the Jewish Brigade of the British army. He saw service in Italy and Egypt. He was wounded when the settlement in which he was a young pioneer 1toas attacked by a band of Arabs. The marauders had sped off with three of the girls of the settle- ment. Oded, running after them, managed to release the girls, but 100 Arabs returned at night aid swooped down upon the kibbutz. AlthoUgh overwhelmingly out- numbered, the Israelis won, but Oded was wounded in the head, resulting in paralysis which at- tacked his body, from the waist down. He will never walk again. His father, Zvi Lieberman, brought Oded to this country re- cently in the hope that a cure might be found for his son, but Oded has syringe bulbia, a spinal condition for which medical knowledge has as yet no cure, and he will be incapacitated, for life. Thanks to tee efforts of De- troit Bnai Brith and Material for Israel, life no longer seems so black to Oded. The car they gave him has a set of parapatic brakes installed which is designed for persons unable to use their feet, and he will be able to drive a car and be a useful member of his community. The staff of Ma- terial for Israel raised money to buy Oded photographic equip- ment, to help him operate a small studio. Detroit Caravan for Israel Sally Fields, secretary of the administrative council of Detroit Bnai Brith Aid to Israel, who led a caravan of trucks loaded with food . and medical supplies des- )3ined for Israel from Detroit, arrived in New York Nov. 16. In ceremonies held at Bedford Cards, Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Fields presented the cargo of food and medical supplies, which was collected in Detroit, to Harris J.
