PARIS (JTA).,-Anti-Jewish ex
cesses this week reached a new
peak in Cairo as a result of the
Egyptian defeats in the Negev, it
was reported by a correspondent
of the Cyprus Mail, who left Cairo
because he was banned from send-
ing dispatches concerning the in-
ternal crisis in Egypt resulting
from the military losses in Pal-
estine. •
The correspondent, a British cit-
izen, added that not a day passes
without Jewish murders at Cairo
and Alexandria, or the dynamit-
ing of Jewish homes and stores.
There is little' to choose between
the street mobs and the police
with respect to lawlessness and
brutality, he declared. An approx-
imate toll of the Jewish loss of life
a)id the damage they have suffer-
ed is impossible to estimate due to
the Egyptian government's com-
plete suppression of the facts, he
asserted.
Egyptian quarters at the United
Nations conceded that their na-
tion's defeat by Israeli troops is
stirring up a whirlpool of opposi-
tion at Cairo, capable of toppling
the government headed by Pre-
mier Mahmoud Fahmn Nokrashy
Pasha. One highly placed in-
formant stated that government
leaders are fearful of a return to
Cairo of the Egyptian soldiers who
have been beaten in the desert
fighting by the Israel forces, and
that they are taking extraordinary
measures to confine them to small
towns and villages.
