thering Liberal Judaism in
America. Dr. Baeck, 75, president

London to accept an invitation
to serve as the first visiting pro-
fessor at Hebrew Union College-
Jewish Institute of Religion in
Cincinnati under the Gustave A.
and Mamie W. Efroymson Me-
morial Lectureship.

meeting Nov. 1, named M. MAN-
UEL MERZON president of the
Junior Congregation. Phillip
Stollman, head of the synagogue,
outlined the program for the en-

Elections held by the Junior Con-
gregation resulted as follows:

To assist Jewish Community
Centers and YM-YWHAs that
wish to enrich their progroarris
by including Jewish' folk danc-
ing, the National Jewish Welfare
Board has published the "JEW-
ISH FOLK DANCE BOOK,"
which is written by Katya Dela-
kova and Fred Berk, creative
dance artists. The 45 pages of
the off-set publication are replete
with material designed to make
it easy for the Center to include
Jewish folk dancing, either as a
separate activity or in relation
to other aspects of the Center's
program,. such as music, dramat-
ics, and arts and crafts.

FRANK .L. WEIL, president of
the National Jewish Welfare
Board, last week • was ap-
pointed by President Truman to
the chairmanship of a committee
on religious, moral welfare and
character guidance in the armed
forces. The committee's task will
be to provide a healthy spiritual
and recreational life for service
men in their off-duty time. Mr.
Weil is also chairman of the
National Social Welware Assem-
bly's executive committee.

ARI IBN-ZAHAV, distinguished
Israeli authOr of "Jessica, My
Daughter," the first novel to
come out of the new Jewish
state, is now in this country on
a lecture tour under the auspices
of the National Federation of
Jewish Men's Clubsi'of the United
Synagogue of America, it was
announced by Arthur Bruckman,
president. Known as , the "poet .
of Jerusalem," Mr. Ibn-Zahav is
perhaps the greatest living au-
thority of the character of Shy-
lock. Last year his novel, "Shy-
lock's Daughter," originally pub-
lished in Hebrew,Vas adapted for
the stage by Maurice Schwartz.

ed congratulations to Dr. Israel
Goldstein, spiritual leader of

Two National Broadcasts
To Emanate From UAHC
Convention in Boston

BOSTON—Two national broad-
casts will originate from the 75th
anniversary convention of the
Union of American Hebrew Con-
gregations, to be held in Boston
Nov. 14 through 17.
On Sunday, 10 to 10:30 a.m.,
over the network of the Amer-
ican Broadcasting .Company on
the "Message of Israel" program,
a service of worship will open
the 40th biennial council of the.
union, which marks the 75th an-
niversary of its founding by Dr.
Isaac M. Wise. Speakers will be
Dr. Maurice N. Eisendrath and
William Rosenwald.' The service
will be conducted by Rabbi Bur-
ton Levinson of Temple Sinai,
Pittsburgh.
On Wednesday, from 1:45 to
2 p.m., over the network of the
National Broadcasting Company,
an NBC reporter will interview
Dr. Eisendrath and the Hon. Lily
'Montagu, English woman lay
preacher who is honorary secre-
tary of the World Union for Pro-
gressive Judaism.

A special appeal to the entire
