at City College, accused college
officials of continuing to shield
Professor William E. Knicker-
bocker, head of the romance lan-
guages department, despite "over-
whelming evidence" of his al-
leged bias toward Jewish students
and faculty members. Prof.
Knickerbocker was the target of
demonstrations by City College
students several weeks ago after
a group demanded that they be
allowed to transfer out of one
of his classes.
Prof. Gross accused Knicker-
bocker of repeatedly making "op-
probrious remarks against Jewish
students and department mem-
bers," pursuing a policy of not
employing Jews and "constantly
shifting the names of Jewish in-
structors eligible for promotion."
