Koch Case Evidence

—Internatirmal Soundphoto

Tanned human skin found at the home of Frau use Koch, widow
of the Nazi commandant at Buchenwald, is displayed at the home of
Lorenz C. Schumhl, deputy warden at Indiana State Prison. The Army
is investigating whether new charges can be brought against the
woman, whose life sentence was reduced to four years. Schumhl was
acting commandant at Buchenwald in April, 1945, as an AMG major.

Daniel Persky's
Book Praised by

his complete dictionary of the
Hebrew langUage to which he
had already devoted several years
and , to which he referred as his
"life work" and about which he
stated that "it will contain all
Hebrew words and expressions
culled from my own writings."
Persky asked him what will hap-
pen if perchance there will be
found some "poor little" word
which hasn't found a place in one
of your writings." To this Soko-
low replied, without a moment's
hesitation: "There is' no Hebrew
word of which I haven't made
some use somewhere in my writ-
ing."
This book is replete with ex-
cellent material. It's true that
quite often, Persky, being true
to Persky, gets involved in a
newly coined Hebrew word or
expression. He then forgets the
"world and all" and weaves a
thought around that particular
word. This deviation would be
considered a fault with with any
other author but with Persky,
the "anarchist," this is • just one
of his typical characteristics.

A Review by BERNARD ISAACS
"Ivri Anokhi" ("I Am a He-
brew") by Daniel Persky, pub-
lished by the author, 243 E. 14th
St., New York, is his fifth volume,
the fly leaf of which carries the,
legend that "permission is grant-
ed to reproduce or translate any
portion of this book in any form
whatever."
In the prefatory chapter, the
author converses very intimately
with the future generations to
come after him. He wants them
to be cognizant of the fact that
together with the loyal pioneer
who built Palestine, there was
also another type of a pioneer
who belongs to the same category
of faithful sons of Israel—the
Hebraist, whose material for
building the home of his people
consisted of the 22 sacred letters
of the Hebrew alphabet. He, too, Orphaned by Nazis,
