Community Leaders to Consider
Overseas and Home Front Needs

Three Detroit Jewish leaders
will attend the special conference
for delegates of the 30 largest
sjewish communities in the United
States and Canada, called by the
Council of Jewish Federation and
Welfare Funds to formulate joint
plans for meeting home front
and overseas needs, Stanley C.
Myers, CJFWF President, an-
nounced. The conference will be
held in Pittsburgh, Oct. 23, 24.
Consultant panels of experts in
Jewish affairs will help commu-
nity leaders in arriving at an
understanding of the current sit-
uation and in reaching basic de-
cisions for long range planning.
Detroit delegates to the confer-
ence are Isidore Sobeloff, execu-
tive director of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation and a member
of the Council's board of direct-
ors; Julian H. Krolik, president
of the JWF and secretary of the
CJFWF and William Avrunin,
associate director of the JWF.
The opening session, Saturday
evening, will seek answers to the
question of "What's Ahead on
the Home 'Front?" Community
representatives will analyze and

exchange experience in meeting
local operating and capital funds
requirements. Prospects for im-
plementing local plans in 1949
will be discussed as well as the
"assets and liabilities" of alterna-
tive methods of raising capital
funds.
An all-day session Sunday, will
be devoted to consideration of
European and Israeli problems
and needs in 1949. At this session,
representatives also will formul-
ate the role of communities re-
garding the reconstruction of the
United Jewish Appeal for 1949,
and year-round participation of
cities in the policies and adminis-
tration of the UJA.
