Eban Speaks from Paris

On Light Broadcast

Aubrey Eban, Israeli repre-
sentative to the UN, will speak
on the Eternal Light radio pro-
gram from Paris at 12:30 p. •m.
Sunday, Oct. 17, on the NBC net-
work, when the series will offer
a special broadcast to mark
United Nations week.
The featured presentation of
the • program will be Irve Tu-
nick's dramatization of "The
Creation,',', based upon legends
found in the Midrash. The origi-
nal background music composed
and arranged by Morris Mamor-
sky will be built around the
authentic musical symbols which
appear in the Bible.
The broadcast will be heard on
station WTCB in Flint and will
be rebroadcast at 8 a.m. Sunday,
Oct. 24, on station WWJ in De-
troit.

Meeting on Oct. 31

20,000 Bags Mailed to
Detroit Jewish Families for
Annual SOS Day, Oct. 31

Mandel Berman, chairman of the Detroit SOS com-
mittee, announced that SOS bags have been mailed to
every Jewish home on record in Detroit. Berman urged
all Jewish women to see that the SOS bags be full of
needed supplies and ready to be picked up on SOS day,
Sunday, Oct. 31. Last Thursday night, more than 100
volunteer SOS workers gathered at the Jewish Center -
for a bag folding party and 20,000 SOS bags were folded
and mailed by the volunteer group to Detroit Jewish
families. Berman requested that anyone who had not
received an SOS bag last year notify Helen Alpert,
6th Floor Owen Building, WO. 5-3939, and a bag will
be sent out to them.
At a report meeting held at Congregation Beth
Aaron, Ruben Gold, chairman of the men's groups, an-
nounced that 75% of the quota of cars and drivers need-
ed for the single-day SOS drive, Oct. 31, has been met.
According to Mr. Gold, "we feel competant that the
men's groups will more than meet their quota for this
year's SOS drive". It was announced that SOS bags
would be mailed to every Jewish home in the city to
arrive not later than Oct. 20.

The Controversial Callahan Act
provides that vaguely defined
"foreign agents" and persons and
organizations sympathetic to for-
eign countries must register with
the Attorney General. Opposition
arose to the bill because of its
loosely-drawn and vague charac-
ter and its duplication of powers
confined to the Federal govern-
ment. Under -the Callahan Act it
has been charged that any relig-
ious organization, foreign relief
group, fraternal organization,
foreign-language society, or labor
union would be liable to persecu-
tion and public defamation of its
character.

M. M. Warburg, JDC chairman.
An up-to-the-minute report on
conditions among the 145,000
Jewish displaced persons still in
the U. S. zone of Germany will
be presented by Dr. Haber, who
will fly to the meeting from
Frankfurt, where he has been
stationed for nearly a year as
chief counselor to Gen. Clay.
At executive sessions the dele
gates will elect national officers
and draw plans for local and reg-
ional activities in 1949. On Sun-

Dr. Meyer Rosoff Dies
NEW YORK (JPS)— Dr. Mey-
er L. Rosoff, 62, retired oral sur-
geon, well known for his activi-
ties in helping colonize Israel,
died here last week,
