United Hebrew Schools' Wo-
men's Au'Xiliary will combine its
opening meeting with an observ-
ance of Education Month Wed-
nesday, Oct. 27, at the Rose Sit-
tig Cohen Bldg.
The program will feature a
symposium on "The Education of
the American Jewish Child," with
Theodore Baruch, Wayne Univer-
sity instructor in speech, discuss-
ing "The Public School," and
Rabbi Moses Lehrman of Cong.
Bnai Moshe speaking on "The
Jewish School." Dessert lunch-
eon at 12:30 p. m. will precede
the meeting.
Two UHS students, Sheila Pud-
avick and Jean Rabotnick, who
were awarded scholarships to
Camp Sharon, for Hebrew-speak-
ing children, will report on their
experiences at the camp.
Mrs. Louis --Gelfand is presi-
dent of the Auxiliary.

ly active in Jewish organization-.

Also on the program will be
the Sisterhood choral group un-
der the direction of the president,
Mrs. Joseph H. Markel. Rabbi
Jacob Segal will greet the wo-
men. A social hour will follow
the meeting.
Northwest women are .conduct-
ing a drive for 1,000 new mem-
bers. Mrs. Michael Galsky and
Mrs. Ben Morganroth are chair-
man and vice chairman of the
drive.
The Sisterhood will hold a lay-
ette shower for SOS Wednesday,
Nov. 3, under the chairmanship
of Mrs. Joe Gordon..

Radio Stations, Schools
Share in Chest's Drive

Radio stations in the Detroit
area are seeing to it that listeners
hear about the Red Feather cam-
paign.
Radio Station WJR has inaug-
urated two musical programs fea-
turing Community Chest mater-
ial. "Cavalcade of Music" is heard
every Sunday at 2 p.m. and
"Music. of the Americas" will be
heard on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m.
Fran Harris, women's editor of
WWJ, is heard on that station
every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in
an advice program entitled. "Red
Feather Mail." Answers to ques-
tions on personal and family
problems are answered by com-
petent social workers.
"Red Feather Music" is heard
at 8:15 p.m. on WJLB every
Thursday.
Television is doing its part to
spread the Community Chest
message:
Community Chest will seek $5,-
975,000 from Oct. 26 to Nov. 17
for the support of its 125 Red
Feather services.
Children from private, public
and parochial schools will learn
about the Community Chest drive
during the "Red Feather Prevue"
at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at
the Michigan Theater.

Evening Discussion Group at the
Jewish Community Center.
Participants will include Dr. J.
J. Sherman, Carl 0. Smith and
Robert Steadman of Wayne Uni-
versity's department of govern-
ment.
On Oct. 20, the Discussion
Group will present a motion pic-
ture forum on background mate-
rials related. to the election. A
special newscast will be presented
at that time by executive board
members Sylvia Schlossberg,
Nathan Medow and Seymour
Mehr.

Congress Women Seek
Membership Increases

The Detroit Women's Division
of the American Jewish Congress
is conducting a membership drive
under the direction of its divi-
sional, membership vice-president,
Mrs. Charles P. Feinberg. Assist-
ing her are following chapter co-
workers: South, Mrs. Archie
Katcher; Central, Mrs. Irwin
Schubiner and Mrs. Jack Gold-
man; Northwest, Mrs. Milton J.
Miller; Northeast, Mrs. Fred
Sherman.
Mrs. Sam Katkin, divisional
finance, vice-president, and her
committee, are making a con-
centrated effort. for increased
membership dues to eliminate
further fund-raising. She states
that a complimentary luncheon
will be given workers bringing
in a total of $60 or more in new
or increased memberships.
On Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 1
p.m., all chapters will feature a
playlet, "Ours the Task," written
by Mrs. Harry Landsman and di-
rected by Mrs. Phillip Frank.
