Under the lead- ership of Newman H. Knopper, Morris Jacobs and Sam DeRoven, the group formally affiliated it- self with the East Side Merchants Association at a meeting on Sept. 27. Meyer Silverman, president of the association, welcomed the new members and appointed De- Roven and Knopper to the Ex- ecutive Board. The new group will operate as - a chapter of the parent associa- tion and work -chiefly in the Eight Mile Road area to carry on the same type of activities : con- ducted on the East Side, includ- ing financial and moral support of Negro communal causes and close cooperation with all organi- zations working for the better- ment of group relations in De- troit.
