Freedom
The Jewish New Year 5709 commences
with more than tNe usual challenges to
all American citizens . . . The respon‘ si-
bilities are great . . . The battle for liberty
goes on . . . A national election is ap-
proaching and each of us must familiar-
ize himself and herself with the issues at
stake . . . All citizens must register and
must prepare to cast their ballots on
November 2 .. . We must be prepared
to vote intelligently . . . We must take
an interest in civic affairs and in our
schools in order that we should assure
for our children a good education . . .
The Jews of America have their added
duties to the survivors from Nazism, to
the builders of Israel, to the educational
systems in our community . . . Our
duties to the cause of freedom are mani-
fold ... May the year 5709 bring us
closer to the realization of all our hopes
r.
for a better. world.
