Hordes, chairman of
the board of directors of the
Jewish National Fund Council
of Detroit, will speak at services
of Congregation = Ahavas Achim
Bnai Abraham, in the Labor
Zionist Institute, on the first day
of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom
Kippur. Contributions to be made
during these services will be con-
tributed to Israel causes, it has
been announced.

"Israel at the Crossroads" will be discussed by Gen. John Hill-
dring at the Hadassah $100 dinner to be held at the Hotel Statler
at 7 p.m. Saturday. General Hilldring is reputed to be one of the
best informed men in this country on the subject of minority groups,
particularly Israel. -
In addition to the main speaker, the capacity crowd which is
expected will be entertained by the music of Mrs. Abraham Cooper,
and Mrs. Alfred Meyers, Honor Roll chairman, will report on the
progress of the campaign.
Mrs. Robert Newman, chairman of the dinner, announces that,
in addition to Mrs. Joseph Fenton and Mrs. George Bremen, who
• are in charge of arrangements, the dinner committee includes
Mesdames Sidney Allen, Thomas Marwil, Nate Shapero and Irving
Wartell, who will take charge of hoStesses and hospitality.
The dinner Saturday will be one of the main features of the
current Hadassah Honor Roll campaign for $135,000. For the first
time this year the annual Honor Roll drive has been combined with
a membership drive. General solicitation is well under • way.
Funds raised by Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization,
are used to support the Youth Aliyah program (see picture below),
and the Hadassah Medical Organization, which includes the world-
famed Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Medical research conducted
at the hospital, as well as the expert modern care given there, have
helped raise the health standards of the entire Middle East.
Other Hadassah projects include the Hadassah Nursing School,
and the projected Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School, to
- be erected on Mt. ScopuS., Extension services of the Medical Organi-
zation include clinics, open to Jews and Arabs alike, in all cities in
Israel, and a school lunch program.

Funds for their maintenance and education are provided by Hadassah,
the women's Zionist organization of America, official representative
of Youth Aliyah in the U. S. Contributors of $480 become active
parents for one child for an entire year. This sum feeds, clothes,
houses and teaches the child. From 1934 to 1948, 30,150 Youth
Aliyah children were brought to Israel, 7,000 of them having come
to the Jewish State since October, 1947, one-half of *at total
between February and May of this year.
